As we know obesity has been on the rise over the previous decades Currently 25.3% of school aged children (5-17) are overweight or obese (Australia Bureau of Statistics, 2012) Physical activity in schools have been declining But the Department of Health and Ageing recommends school aged children to participate in 60 minutes of rigorous activity daily
- 3. What are the benefits? Physical activities have many benefits on the overall wellbeing: Having an improved physical and emotional wellbeing To ensure a person develops physically to the best of their ability An increased likelihood to carry on these habits well into their adult life
- 4. What are the misconceptions? PDHPE is not just about physical activity but also the development and health of a person Students develop an awareness of themselves and others around them They develop their values and attitudes and use those throughout their life Developing this at the appropriate stages ensures children to promote their knowledge and understanding
- 5. What you can do to help? It is a combined effort on your behalf as parents and your children as well as I as the teacher to help promote the importance of PDHPE PDHPE deserves to be an important aspect to your children’s lives and together we shall make this enjoyable!
