This document describes the development of a speech recognition system for recognizing speaker-independent spoken digits in Malayalam using three classifiers: artificial neural networks (ANN), support vector machines (SVM), and naive Bayes classifiers. The proposed method involves preprocessing voice signals with wavelet denoising to remove background noise and extracting features using discrete wavelet transforms (DWT). Performance evaluation shows ANN achieved the best recognition accuracy of 89%, followed by SVM and DWT at 86.6%, and naive Bayes and DWT at 83.5%.
