Editor's Notes

  • #2: I’m here to speak to you about the importance of teaching primary and secondary students the life skill of project management.
  • #3: Students are given complex projects as early as 4 th grade and they are graded on the these projects. We wouldn’t expect a student to write a paper without providing instruction in grammar and spelling; nor would be expect a child to pass a math test with knowing how to add and subtract. Yet we grade students on projects and don’t teach the project management skills.
  • #4: With more teachers assigning projects, the task of doing multiple and simultaneous classroom projects is a common predicament.
  • #5: Likewise, teachers are unlikely to have any formal training or background in formal project concepts or discipline themselves, making the consistent, effective use of projects as a teaching tool that much more challenging.
  • #6: A new frontier of education has emerged in which projects have become an integral part of a child’s learning experience.
  • #7: Managing projects is something we do throughout our lives. If we teach children to manage projects they can be more successful in school and be prepared to be competitive in the 21 st century workforce.
  • #8: Project management is a 21 st century skill. 21 st century skills include; Communication Collaboration Cross cultural understanding Computer literacy Creativity Conflict resolution Critical thinking
  • #9: When students participate in a project team they learn and practice 21 st century skills. They communicate, collaborate and negotiate.
  • #10: Leading business leaders and educators believe that 21 st century skills are as importance as core subjects
  • #11: We are the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation and can provide resources to help you implement a project management program in your school.
  • #12: We can provide the following resources to help you plan and implement a program
  • #13: A student project is a key component of any project management program. Project management professionals will attend classes and work with the students and be a resource for the teachers. We also realize that many primary and secondary teachers do no have project management training, the mentor become a resource for these teachers. Pictured here are mentors from a program held in Philadelphia.
  • #14: We provide curriculum for: Primary schools Middle schools High schools All curriculum incorporates 21 st century skills
  • #15: We provide academic scholarships for students and training scholarships for teachers. Teacher can attend virtual or on-site classes.
  • #16: Through grants we are funding the development for training seminars for teachers, curriculum development and classes for children in third world countries.
