How My Own Culture And Identity Influence My Interactions...
How my own culture and identity influence my interactions with others? Culture is defined as asocial
heritage of a group; it influences how people communicate with each other. Also referred to as the
cumulative deposit experience, values, customs often affected by religious beliefs, it varies from one
community to the other, it is transmitted through language and arts, from one generation to the next.
Cultural identity is feeling of belonging to a group, it is an element that is brought about when a
person comprehends his/her own culture, it is part of a person s self conception and perception and
this helps the person to also comprehend and appreciate the culture of other people as well. It is
related to nationality, religion, ethnicity, generation or any kind of social group that has its own
distinct culture. So culture plays an important role in one s life because it is a strong factor in shaping
one s identity. In my life, culture identity is very important because it tells who I am. It has shaped me
into the person I am now. I am coming from culture that has had an impact on my norms, values , and
beliefs. I was born and raised in Sudan, a country with a multi ethnic group, with a mixture of African,
Arabic and Islamic traditions and values. Back in my home country, I belong to the dominant social
groups as being Middle Age, Male, Arabic, Muslim, and Middle Class. Although there is huge
diversity among different groups and tribes live

Students Disrespectful In Schools
Why are students disrespectful in schools? There is no specific factor for disrespectful students in
schools. Students are mocking teachers. You re a terrible teacher! No one cares about school. Teachers
are humiliating students in front of their peers. Consistently criticizing students for their lack of
enthusiasm, laziness, insubordination, and ungratefulness. Students fight amongst themselves,
compete against one another in an effort to achieve high marks even if it means cheating on
assignments and assessments. Unfortunately, this epidemic of disrespect needs to be acknowledged.
Why? Because the rapid changes we have witnessed in our schools in the 21st Century has become a
troubling phenomenon. As teachers, we are to provide a safe and positive learning environment
conducive to learning. We have a simple job and that is to teach students material and to make sure
they understand it. Unfortunately, we have those students who make our lives difficult. They have
complete disrespect for their teachers as well as their peers because they are disrupting the classroom
affecting the learning abilities of those students who want to be there. Most students lean toward this
type of behavior when teachers are trying to discipline them. We enforce discipline because it is our
job to make sure the learning environment stays focused. Other students don t want to hear their
classmates disrupting the lesson by talking back to teachers or arguing with their peers.

Fast Food Advertising Effects On Childhood Obesity
The Impact of Fast Food Advertising on Childhood Obesity The writer Heidi Murkoff once said, As
obesity creeps into preschools, and hypertension and type II diabetes become pediatric problems for
the very first time, the case for starting preventive health care in the cradle has become too compelling
to keep ignoring. What Murkoff shows is that obesity is turning into an issue, especially among
children. The book Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss demonstrates how food corporations use
advertising to persuade people, especially children to buy their foods. Lately, obesity has been hitting
the United States in incredible numbers. Children who are overweight are more likely to be obese
when they get older; therefore, they are at a higher risk of developing all the health issues that obesity
causes. Diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease are only some of the many diseases that a person
can face by being obese. Fast food advertising has a huge impact on childhood obesity and it is a great
contribution to the problem; however, the FTC should be able to reduce advertising to children. The
food industry claims that advertising affects only children s brand preferences, however, scientific
evidence suggests that advertising influences children s eating inclinations and habits more broadly.
The big fast food corporations have discovered that children are an incredible source of income due to
their susceptibility when it comes to food. Toddlers have a high influence on their

The Pros and Cons of Participant Observation Essay
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Participant Observation as a Research Method
This essay will examine how participant observation is used as a research method. In the main body of
this essay, this idea will be addressed by pointing out advantages and
disadvantages of participant observation. I will give examples to support my argument.
Participant observation is the main research method favoured by interpetitivists. It involves the
researcher participating in a social group to observe and experience the
world as a participant while still observing the group for future analasys of their behaviour from the
researchers point of view. The researcher must decide how he will approach ... Show more content on

There are both advantages and disadvantages to participant observation. Participants face the problem
of objectivity, it is often very time consuming, for example,
Beverly Skeggs (1997), spent 12 years researching the lives of women on a caring course in England.
Participants also face dangers and can also find themselves in
situations they find morally unacceptable or illegal. Quantitative researchers samples are too small and
while the researcher may get the bulk of his/her information from
structured questions, they are not getting peoples true opinions. The conclusions can only apply to the
specific group which the researcher has studied and cannot be
generalised or replicated. The observer himself decides what information to select or omit and the fact
that the observer is present in overt observations, it is believed that
the group will not act naturally. This therefore questions the validity of the data collected. There are
also many advantages to participant observation compared with other
research methods. By preparing a questionaire, the researcher has already decided what questions he
wants to ask and what information is important to the study.

Arthur Birling s Outlook on Life Socially and In Business
In the play, Arthur Birling was one of the Predominant characters that portray an unsophisticated and
Pompous man, but on the other hand Mr. Birling was one of the wealthiest businessmen in the area
(Brumly) and was very involved in local politics. His success brings him hopes of achieving
Knighthood and thus making him closer socially to Lady Croft and Sir George.
....there s a far chance that I might find my way into the next Honours list. Just for a Knighthood of

His self centred and Pompous attitude (Not to mention his finances) gives him a social attitude worthy
of praise and he is not hesitant to boast and remind others about it, (especially when it comes to
putting the Inspector in his place).
...I ought to warn you that he s an old friend (Chief Constable Colonel Roberts) and I see him fairy

Arthur Birling s out look on life socially is greatly contradictorily to what he truly desires; He tries to
impose an image to the other characters as a man who is in control of the events that occur in the play.
Mr. Birling in retrospect a snob who treats those who do not give him personal gain (Meaning getting
into the Honours list) like lesser people.
You! You don t seem to care about anything. But I care. I was almost certain for a knighthood in the

The Aim of Man Essays

Mr. Matthew Adams
English 150 SB Annotation 4
October 9, 2010
Aristotle The Aim of Man Aristotle starts off in his essay explaining the definitions of Good, Primacy
of Statecraft and the study of Ethics. He defines good as where all things are to be aimed, for example
health. He then defines Statecraft as citizens of a state, a country, and of the world need to do good for
their own good but more importantly for the good of the state. He also characterizes various types of
good. Finally, the definition on study of Ethics. This talks about the pure excellence of justice that

He uses the metaphor of a chameleon to illustrate this. We are all different and when you think of a
chameleon, you first think of colors and personalities. In his example as a visual we can say that
people s happiness ranges so far and in between. My response to the topic about the aim of man is that
I agree that we all strive to achieve the very same goal as Aristotle points out; which is happiness. I
think that his essay captures his definition of happiness well by repeating it several times throughout.
This is effective to me because it is a repetitive way to enforce the topic. I agree with Aristotle
especially that one does not know happiness until they can make the discernment. For the same reason
he stated that a child can not be happy. I like his definition to happiness because it isn t just
characterized by good fortunes but it is much deeper in that it derives from the soul with perfect
righteousness. I can identify a strength of the essay is that he doesn t get off the topic often. He
touches about wealth and how that isn t the true source of happiness but quickly closes on the subject
and goes back to the good that we are seeking. Another example where he does this was towards the
end, he briefly talks about sleep is an inactivity of the soul. He clearly dismisses the subject by
pointing out its irrelevance. This makes the essay easier to follow. Another strength that I notice was
he used the

Starbucks is an American company who try to expend its business to other country around the world.
However, each country owned and has an identity, a history, and culture. This requires to Starbucks to
analyze the current market and adapt his offers according to the needs and mores (usages).
There are several barriers facing Starbucks to the teaching people to change their consumption habits
from tea and instant coffee. First of all, the major problem is that a cultural problem. In fact tea is still

Besides, even if in the text it is written, As if Chinese market were not enough, Starbucks is finalizing
a deal to enter India. I think that if Starbucks succeed with Chinese market they could also enter the
Indian market, with the same research realize for China.

There is response to this question in the text, but I can explain my thought. When we buy a coffee at
Starbucks we don t buy only a coffee but also a corporate images, a service, a way of thinking and
living. Starbucks create its own environment, brand value. It represents the premium coffee. There is
not only coffee, even if it is the Starbucks s specialty. Also, there is breakfast, drink, gift card, candy,
lunch, and all spin off products (derivative product or tie in merchandise). The atmospheres of the
place are a huge factor in the Starbucks experience. They want us to be the first and the most luxurious
coffee.
To respond to Americans and Europeans increasing concern for the environment, Starbucks adopted a
green marketing. They contribute to protect the environment by using recycled cup and other things. It
s a way to play with the affective (emotional) component of the consumer.
This way of thinking is true in western countries, I do not know about this fact in Middle Eastern and
eastern countries.
In order to complete my answer, I also search on Internet the other values of Starbucks (Internal
values).

Nuclear Essay
The UK civil nuclear power industry initially started in 1946 followed by the establishment of one of
the world s first nuclear power plant in 1956 [23 24]. This commercial scale reactor was built in
southwest Scotland and given a name MAGNOX due to the fuel cladding (magnesium non oxidising
alloy) used to contain the fuels. The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uranium metal fuel to generate
thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within the core. Two
types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA) and Pile Grade B
(PGB). The former is used as a neutron moderator due to its high density and lower neutron
absorption, whereas the latter is mostly used as a reflector [23]. ... Show more content on

Currently, there are fifteen operating reactors in the UK with a combined total output around 8883
MWe, and one under construction [27]. Fourteen of the fifteen operating reactors are AGRs and
located at seven different power stations, making the AGRs the most dominant nuclear reactors in the
UK. The remaining two reactors (including the one under construction) are based on PWR design.
AGRs are the second generation of the UK nuclear power plants, and initially designed to improve the
steam cycle efficiency of the early reactor design (MAGNOX). This type of reactors exists only in the
UK and operated by EDF Energy (formerly British Energy). Since the AGRs first operation in 1976
they have become the UK s most dominant reactor after showing an increased economic benefits and
steam cycle efficiency approximately 42% compared with MAGNOX reactor, which has
approximately 31% efficiency [25]. AGRs are capable of producing peak fuel temperature
approximately 800 °C and the coolant gas temperature approximately 650 °C at 40 bars. The steam
generated by the AGRs can reach up to 540 °C at 165 bar, which is capable of driving the standard
660 MW turbines.

To Kill A Mockingbird, And To Kill A Mockingbird
What does it mean to be oppressed? To be oppressed means to be have rights taken away, as a result of
discrimination. People can be judged by their race, financial situation, gender, etc. and can do nothing
about this discrimination because so many other people strongly believe in segregating the community
by the standards that they ve set up. The image of a tiny person next to a large thumb, the poem I Look

How Youth Online Culture Is Perceived
How Youth Online Culture Is Perceived
The impact of online culture on youth is hugely significant in today s society. Youth of today, all
around the world, have grown up in the midst of rapid technological development. It now plays a part
in the social, work, leisure, and private spheres of people s lives. Adults perceive youth interactions
online as negative, harming their ability to develop and function in the adult world. Youth perceive
their involvement in online culture quite differently, seeing it as a way to keep socially connected,
express themselves, and participate in society. Youth do not need to change their behaviours to suit
adult s perceptions, but rather, adults and youth need to be more understanding of the other s views.
Adult concepts regarding youth online culture are mostly negative and result from the moral panic of
current society promoted by the media. Gray s blog article (2014) draws attention to and challenges
stereotypical views that adults hold about youth online. Firstly, that youth are simply wasting time on
the internet when they could be doing school work, going out, or being active. Secondly, that it is
socially isolating, preventing youth from going out and physically interacting with peers in person.
Thirdly, that youth do not understand the concepts of privacy and safety online and that they will
inevitably regret sharing some information, once they have reached adulthood. It is also argued that
youth should adjust their behaviours to

of the century. It involves a cooperative genome sequence analysis of the species Vitis Vinifera, one of
the most common grapevine species.
The goal of the IGGP is to provide insights into the molecular biology of the species. Using genetic
tools, scientists are attempting to modify specific parts of the Vitis genome to produce higher quality
wine, disease resistant crops and provide a database for producers to plant the right species with
respect to the specific environment of their production site. According to data collected in 2007, half
of the grape genome has been mapped, which includes more than 22800 nucleotide sequences and the
project is expected to grow even more the next years. The data has been placed in the public databases
of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).

Peace Like a River Essay
Life can be viewed as a battle field, a constant fight between good and evil. In Leif Enger s Peace Like
a River, this scenario was well depicted. In the novel, there was a constant fight taking place between
the good and evil characters, and though based around family, love, and brotherhood, the novel mainly
focused on the conflict between these characters.
This student felt that it was fair to classify the Lands along with Roxanna Cowley, The Shultzs and Dr.
Nokes as the good characters. This was a fair classification as these characters maintained their
positive personas throughout the novel. On the other hand, Superintendent Holgren, Israel Finch,
Tommy Busca, and Jape Waltzer can be classified as the bad characters. The main ... Show more

Jeremiah had been working at Rueben and Swedes school as a janitor. After the two murders
Superintendent Holgren began to treat Jeremiah differently, as he allowed his opinion to determine
whether or not Jeremiah deserved the job. Holgren made work even more difficult and disagreed with
everything that Jeremiah did. Jeremiah, being the calm person that he was, never retaliated with
negative words. He allowed Holgren to mistreat him, even in front of the staff and students in the
school. Holgren finally resorted to firing Jeremiah in front of everyone, but Jeremiah simply touched
his face and walked away. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do
nothing (Budha).
Jeremiah did nothing but simply left things in God s hands. He allowed Holgren to make a fool out of
himself and surprisingly, he healed Holgren s face from those unsightly sores.
Once again good triumphed over evil. This student felt that Jeremiah maintained his composure and
acted just as he should. The best way to deal with situations is to walk away and Jeremiah proved to

Leadership and Group Members
Leadership has been described as the process of social influence in which one person is able to enlist
the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task . A definition more inclusive of
followers comes from Alan Keith of Genentech who said Leadership is ultimately about creating a
way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.
FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP THEORY (Hackman amp; Walton, 1986; McGrath, 1962) is a
particularly useful theory for addressing specific leader behaviors expected to contribute to
organizational or unit effectiveness. This theory argues that the leader s main job is to see that
whatever is necessary to group needs is taken care of; thus, a leader can be said to have done their ...

Consideration includes behavior involved in fostering effective relationships. Examples of such
behavior would include showing concern for a subordinate or acting in a supportive manner towards
others. Initiating structure involves the actions of the leader focused specifically on task
accomplishment. This could include role clarification, setting performance standards, and holding
subordinates accountable to those standards.
Organizations are relying increasingly on teams to improve quality, efficiency, and adaptive change.
Cross functional teams are used to improve coordination among the different parties involved in
carrying out a joint project. Self managed teams are delegated most of the responsibility and authority
traditionally vested in fir line supervisors. Self defining teams represent an extreme form
empowerment, because the team can determine its mission given the ability of the leader.
Regulate its internal processes, and negotiate relationships with other parts of the organization and

better quality of products and services, and greater efficiency and productivity.
However, the benefits do not occur automatically, and successful implementation depends on a variety
of facilitating conditions, including the quality of leadership. Some

Cassandr A Short Story
Hours pass, and Cassandra is shaken awake. As her eyes flutter open, she is greeted to a black figure
with a wide, white smile, which is almost cartoon like.
Who... what... are you..., she mutters, absently blinking at the thing before her.
Why, dear, it replies chipperly, I m you!
Leave me alone, she croaks, closing her eyes in defeat.
Ah, ah, ah, it giggles, Not so fast!
It grips Cassandra s arms in it s own, pulling her up with an inhuman strength. The small girl lets out a
scream of torture.
Stop! Stop, please! I ll get up!
Now THAT S the spirit! it smiles, letting go of its death grip.
What do you want? Cassandra asks angrily, Why didn t you come to help me when I woke up in this

Is it happening again?
Yes, yes, god! It isn t dying down this time!
One of the doctors is screaming at a nurse who is trying to hold the small girl down.
You ll injure the patient, you idiot!
The room is filled with yelling and arguing voices, all the while Cassandra s mother stands idly by.
She rests her head in her hands as she weeps, tears soaking her already soiled blouse. It had been
months since her daughter had arrived here, and there was little to no hope left in the tiny woman.
Cassandra s body continues to thrash about, her movements violent, as her limbs flail every which

Mrs. Solita looks up just as her little girl flat lines.

over the phone, by e mail, and an in person interview. The in person interview seemed to be more
appropriate because it would allow me to interact with the people who work for the organization and
possibly see interaction with clients. Interviewing one in person also helps to show the kind of

seen by the steady growth in the number of clients supported and the growth of the organization itself,
combined with the increasing numbers of staff. The Arc is definitely an organization meeting the goals
it has put in place for itself but still has potential to grow even further. The information gathered by

How Did Barack Obama Use Humor In Pop Culture
It s 2016 and Barack Obama s 8th year of going to the presidential dinner at the White House, where

politicians. From previous years he s made references to the Hunger Games and drunk texting, and
said he has a list that rhymes with bucket list for his last year in office. Even though Obama may not
be the first post racial president he is arguably the first postmodern humorist, and with his humor in

and laugh about it. One dramatic way that racist humor has been spread throughout the world is over
the internet. Youtube is a great example of this because most the comedy videos uploaded in today s
world will have some kind of rude or racist humor that jabs at someone or some other race. One
example would be with Key Peele videos and how racist they are in their videos but what makes them
different is that they are trying to teach a lesson with their videos. Such as in their video named Racist

Classroom Behavior Management And Its Effects On Students...
Classroom behavior management is considered to be one of the most important factors to determine
student s behaviors. With that being said, the study evaluated classroom behavior strategies that are
aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). According
to research, the impact of SW PBIS has reduced problem behaviors and increased academic
performance. However, despite the increase of PBIS many teachers continue to struggle with
managing student behavior in the classroom (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). Often times
ineffective classroom management negatively impacts students behaviors in where they are given less
academic instruction. This is important because teacher s implementation of effective practices
becomes affected by their job demands. Teachers are therefore less likely to have effective
implementations if they are emotionally exhausted or lack self efficacy (Reinke, Herman Stormont,
2013). More importantly, if teachers implement PBIS in their classrooms with positive stated rules and
expectations they are more likely to praise their students and reduce behavioral problems. Whereas,
teachers with higher rates of student disruptive behavior are more likely to have lower self efficacy
and emotional exhaustion (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). By all means, support has to be given to
teachers in the field to protect children from having negative teacher student interactions. The study
underscores the necessity to access

Odyssey Research Paper
Before the Odyssey is explained, there is much historical information about Ancient Greece to cover.
To begin, the time period that Odyssey is a part of is known as Homeric society. Homeric society is a
concoction of diverging assortments in various points in history. Because the setting is a combination
of different times from several coteries, the story includes many ideas and values particular to each
one. In the 8th century BC, the Mediterranean saw a growth in population after the dark age, thus
leading to the menagerie that the Ancient Greeks partook in. Moving forward, there is much evidence
that suggests that epics were created between 750 and 650 B.C.E. These stories were set in
Mycenaean Greece around the 12th century B.C.E, also known as the Bronze Age. ... Show more

In order to elicit this pristine age, the Iliad and Odyssey were written in such a style that describes the
lifestyle of those in the great kingdom of the Bronze Age. The Greeks are more often called Achaeans
which is was the name of a tribe that lived in Greece during the Bronze Age (SparkNotes Editors 3).
Moving on, in Ancient Greece, myriads of sacrifices and games were enacted in honor of their gods
and goddesses ( Gods and Festivals 1). Multitudes of competition a pivotal component in Greece s
history also involved music, dramas and athletics( Gods and Festivals 1). For example, The Olympic
Games is Ancient Greece s most well known event. They held The Olympic Games in honor of the
supreme God Zeus. In fact, about half of the year in Athens was dedicated with sacrificial offerings
and festivals to their Gods and Goddesses ( Gods and Festivals 1). During that time period, many
Greek people thought music as another way of devoting themselves and honoring their gods. Just like
today, music was an important part of their daily routine (Carr

Describe The Role Of Fatty Acid In Metabolism Research Paper
The catabolism of fatty acids is the breakdown of food to release energy. Saturated fatty acids are
those which have a single bond between the carbon atoms whereas, unsaturated fatty acids are those
which have at least one double bond in their structure. The catabolism of both types of fatty acids
produce higher energy yields of 9kcal per gram of fat compared to alcohol with 7kcal per gram and
only 4kcal per gram in carbohydrates and proteins. Energy is the capacity to do work which initially
comes from the sun. Energy is needed by the body for voluntary work, maintaining body functions,
homoeostasis and metabolic integrity. The breakdown of fatty acids only occur when there is a lack of
energy. One way to gain energy is through food. Fatty acids inside food are distributed to cells for
muscular contraction and general metabolism. Metabolism is the interconversion of different
chemicals in the body such as catabolism (exergonic reaction releasing energy) and anabolism
(endergonic reaction requiring energy). Three factors are important in metabolism: 1) Energy released
from some molecules are needed to build others e.g. ATP. 2) Carbon skeletons are the building blocks
for many different types of molecules. 3) Reducing equivalents ... Show more content on

White Beauty Perceptions In The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison
The Bluest Eye is a story written by Toni Morrison in 1970. The Bluest Eye gives readers a deep
descriptions of the ways white beauty standards deformed the lives of blacks girls and
women.provides an extended depiction of the ways in which internalized white beauty standards
deform the lives of black girls and women. Pecola let white beauty standards deform her life. People
believe that having the bluest eyes would change the way people viewed her and her view of others.
Whiteness being superior is shown throughout the entire text through implicit messages. The title of
the story explains the book basically. Pecola had a strong aspiration for blue eyes. She had a certain
insight on having blue eyes that wasn t necessarily correct. Pecola didn t believe she was up to the
beauty standards of the society. She honestly believed that the cruel things she is put through on the
daily is the effect of how she is seen by others. She has a honest feeling that if she obtains blue eyes
people will look at her and treat her differently because she feels like she ll be closer to the beauty
standards and being accepted. The thought process of Pecola was that if she had those pretty blue eyes
people would not want to do negative things to or in front of her. The accuracy of this insight is
confirmed by many of her daily experiences. There was a few times Pecola along with her family were
being mistreated because of the color of their skin, which is showing how whites were superior

A mother is someone who takes care of her children in the best of her ability in the early stages of
their lives, and also later on. A pair of parents responsibilities is to take care of the family, do what is
best for their children, and teach them to walk in the right path. They are not to be selfish on their

Divorce caused by irresponsible parents and accusation through the custody and alimony process.
People are smarter these days, and end their marriage before it gets long enough to pay alimony, child
support for their stepchildren, or pregnancy of their current spouse. With the starting of one bad
parenting, there are fathers that try to accuse the mothers of adultery, which leads to refusing of the

Different Types Of Therapy For Me
Just by walking into the occupational therapy clinic, I know I am changing lives. When I can make
children happy by simply offering a toy or a pleasant smile, while inside they may be struggling, I
know I chose the right career to pursue. Therapy of all types is rewarding. Nothing compares to the
feeling you get when you see someone improving and you know you had a hand in that improvement.
But occupational therapy transcends all other types of therapy for me because it involves helping
people on a more emotional and psychological level. Being able to volunteer and observe occupational
therapists at work showed me children who were often not able to complete daily tasks. Seeing the
children struggle with their fears and issues was extremely difficult, but watching them slowly
improve and gain confidence week after week was beyond rewarding. They are not only able to find
the strength to overcome their problems with each session, they are able to adapt a more normal life,
which is something I believe everyone should have a chance at. Choosing OT was not a quick or easy
decision for me. My first job was teaching swimming lessons to kids at a local fitness facility and I
knew after working there for several years that I wanted to work with children in some way. My
degree in psychology steered me toward the work of Child Life Specialists, who would comfort and
help in patient children and their families at hospitals. Wanting to find out more about the career, I

Darcy And Collins Proposal Essay
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in

the entire plot of the story: marriage. This plot involves many key events, two of the most important
being Darcy s proposal to Elizabeth and Collins proposal to Elizabeth.
Within both proposals, Darcy and Collins are confident that Elizabeth will accept. Mr. Collins is
Elizabeth s cousin who is next in line to receive the Bennet estate. This reason, with the fact that his
patroness, Lady Catherine, wants him to pursue a wife, is why he proposed to Elizabeth, and with the
estate circumstances, why he assumed she would say yes. Darcy s proposal is similar in the way that
he takes into account how the marriage would be of benefit to Elizabeth and her family, financially

Sustainability and Its Impact on the Four Managerial Functions
Nowadays people all over Australia use their own environmentally friendly shopping bags when they
go to the Supermarket. Why have so many people changed their every day habit and stopped using the
convenient plastic bags? The transition from plastic bags to recycled ones is only one aspect of a
global attitude change towards environmental topics. During the last few decades, businesses have
been focusing on lowering their production costs, with no considerations on the consequences for the

order to prevent an environmental crisis.

In prior years, while managers used to set goals for their organization, their only consideration was
how to maximize revenues, without paying attention to the created waste during the manufacturing
process and the operation of the organization.
Nowadays, managers need to ensure that the manufacturing process is sustainable.
The Lean Manufacturing (Womack, Jones Roos, 1990) term is a managerial philosophy which tries to
eliminate waste as much as possible during the manufacturing process. For example maximize use and
reuse of raw materials, decrease the amount of excess supply and defective products, effective
shipping handling and consecutive manufacturing process. The second factor managers must relate to
is reduction in the amount of waste in the organization s building itself. For instance total consumption
of water and energy should be minimized as well. Then, the organization s board has to structure its

For illustration, for more than half a century The Coca Cola Company had put its emphasis on
protecting the environment. In 1956, The Coca Cola Company set a goal of protecting our world and

and is considered as a revolution maker in regards to environment and Sustainability topics. In

Pros And Cons Of The Sarbanes-Oxley Act
Since the act was established, Congress was placed under heavy fire. In the eyes of its opposers, SOX
will do more to hurt than it helps. Critics state that the law puts too much power into the hands of the
PCAOB. They are given almost unlimited power without any checks or balances. Sarbanes Oxley
empowers the Board with the most authoritarian powers imaginable. It can conduct investigations and
disciplinary proceedings at will and can impose fines and otherwise discipline companies and the
accounting firms they employ. In effect, it is the prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner (Terence).
This imperialistic process of policing companies that are publicly trading will lead to corruption inside
of the institution that is supposed to be wholly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The companies must buy equipment that will hold thousands upon thousands of conversations,
documents, meetings, lunches, and deals. This becomes tremendously costly to the larger companies;
smaller companies do not have to devote manpower or as much money to that because they are
smaller, giving them a tremendous advantage. The board allowed to make changes as it wishes, which
places companies in the position of forever trying to hit a moving target. This is completely
unnecessary, critics state, as there must be set rules of to follow or it would be impossible to always
comply, and if one is not in compliance, they pay a fine or face prison. There were changes made,
cutting some of the minutely detailed auditing requisites, widely hailed as good news. Unfortunately,
this does not consider that both the companies and the auditing firms had already instituted these
procedures at enormous cost in money and computer design talent, and thus would be likely to spend
even more of the same to undo these efforts. Considering this anyone can see the costly downside of
the situation. Sarbanes Oxley is not just a set of simple rules companies must follow, but an ever
changing plethora of regulations that are set at the whim of the

Telecommuting Simulation
Recently there has been a growing request for options to telework/telecommute in various departments
within the company. I recommend the Human Resource department adopt a policy that will include
procedures for selection criteria, approval of planned schedule, work, or project, and managerial
oversight. To meet the needs of our employees we recognize having more flexibility in work schedules
will alleviate work and family conflict by adopting a policy around telecommuting (Pynes, 2014, pg
265). Having a formal policy in place will minimize any misuse of this perceived benefit and will
ensure all requests are considered fairly.
Telecommuting for our agency will be defined as an employee is working away from the office for
one or more days within a given week (Managing pg. 9). Employees will be permitted to work from
home or elsewhere if they prefer. By allowing telecommuting we are reducing the amount of travel
time required for those who may need greater flexibility in their schedule. As well as giving our
employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Telecommuting has been shown to reduce absenteeism, improve retention, and reduce recruitment
costs for the organization (Family, pg. 730). Increased employee moral is also a benefit associated
with telecommuting (Professional Isolation, pg. 512). Offering this new benefit that is such a satisfier
for employees will likely result in reduced turnover within the organization and higher productivity. A
study found pubic employees who were satisfied with their telework/telecommuting benefits were less
likely to leave their positions (Family pg. 732). With the reduction of office time, an increase in
employee productivity is likely due to fewer interruptions from fellow employees (Lessons pg. 10).
With telecommuting having benefits to both the employer and employee, this new policy should bring
positive results to the

Essay Theodore Roosevelt and a Strengthened Presidency
Theodore Roosevelt and a Strengthened Presidency Theodore Roosevelt has been recalled as one of
our most forceful Presidents. The reason for his reputation of strength rested on his ability to get
things done, both domestically and abroad. His policies resulted in a strengthened executive branch.
Roosevelt inherited the Presidency after the unfortunate death of President McKinley in 1901. One of
his earliest displays of Federal power came in 1902 with the Pennsylvania coal strike. His efforts at
negotiation marked the first time that the Federal government stepped in to resolve a labor dispute
with the intention to protect all concerned, as opposed to favoring industry over workers and the
public good. Although the coal miners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Towards this end, he passed the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906. Both of
these measures marked the beginnings of reform in consumer rights, which before Roosevelt, had
been virtually ignored. Part of his policy of protecting the public welfare included conservation, an
idea that was previously not given much attention. Americans had always used their natural resources
without regard for the future, yet President Roosevelt managed to awaken public interest in
conservation, spur Congress to action and convince Federal and state governments to adopt new
policies. He withdrew from public sale 150 acres of forest lands, coal and phosphate lands, and
potential water power sites. At his urging, Congress created wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.
The Newlands Reclamation Act provided money from the sale of public lands in 16 Western states and
territories to build irrigation projects to make wastelands suitable for farming. Two of these are the
Shoshone Dam in Wyoming and Arizona s Roosevelt Dam. Additionally, he created the Inland
Waterways Commission, and held the White House Conference of 1908, which succeeded in
establishing state conservation agencies in 41 states and established the National Conservation
Commission to study the nation s mineral, water, forest and soil resources. Roosevelt s conservation
policy established a strong foundation for a solid conservation program for the future. Roosevelt
accomplished just as much

Canadian Senate Reform
The legislative branch of the Canadian government is divided between an upper house, the Senate, and
a lower house, the House of Commons. This system is known as a bicameral legislature, and is a
feature of many governments. In Canada, much of the legislative and executive power lies in the
House of Commons, and by extension the Prime Minister. The Senate, however, exists in its current
form primarily for the purpose of legislative review. Despite the Senate s seemingly negligible role, or
perhaps because of it, it is the most criticized institution of government in Canada (Franks, 1988).
While it has remained largely unchanged, movements aimed at either Senate reform or abolition, have
been essential to Canadian politics for much of recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notwithstanding the many shortcomings of the Senate, it is an important institution that serves an
essential purpose. Although it is rarely commended publicly for its accomplishments, other public
servants and academics praise the Senate for the breadth and quality of its investigative and scrutiny
functions in committee (Smith, 2003). In order to understand the Senate, one must distinguish the
roles of the upper and lower houses. While the House of Commons serves the elective function of
making or unmaking government the Senate is not a confidence chamber and thus serves a distinct,
yet equally relevant role (Smith, 2003). The Senate, and bicameralism more broadly, was instituted as
a constraint on government. Its justification rests on obstruction: rather than empower, it restrains
government (Smith, 2003). This impediment to the unchecked power of the House of Commons
justifies the preservation of the Senate as an institution. While some consider the Senate unnecessary
or redundant, it is an essential element of Canadian government. However, despite its significance, it
is not particularly well liked and some consider it to be the most criticized institution of government in
Canada (Frank, 1988). For over sixty years, the issue of Senate reform or abolition has been inherent
to Canadian political discourse (Frank, 1988). Given the importance of the Senate in Canadian

How Has Slang Changed Over The Years
Slang terms have been a prominent part of society for many years. Slang terms have also changed
from generation to generation. This paper will discuss some common slang terms and see if there is a
significant difference between the generations. Two hypotheses were used for this research project.
The reason that there are two is explained in the paper. They original hypothesis for this paper was:
slang terms from different generations are so vastly different that it would be very hard to differentiate
the meanings. This hypothesis had to be changed because the data collected did not give the
information needed to tell if the hypothesis could be proven or not. The new hypothesis is: people
from a specific generation will use a certain slang term more often than people from a different
generation. A quote from a document about slang used in school is what inspired this project. Today s
teens aren t the first to have a language of their own. Every generation has its own set of informal
expressions, coined words and phrases, and standard vocabulary used in new ways in other words,
slang. So do other groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

you find attractive? , What term would you use to describe something that is interesting? , What term
would you use to describe paper with monetary value (money)? , and finally What term would you use
to describe people that are no longer in a relationship? . Each question also had a fourth option; a fill
in the blank. If the survey taker didn t see the term that they would use then they could put a word of
their choice. The survey will be at the end of this

Marxist View on Education
Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess the view that the education system exists mainly to
select and prepare young people for their future work roles. (20 marks)
As stated in Item A sociologists see the education system as performing a vital role in modern
societies. Item A also highlights that the education system can equip individuals with the specialised
knowledge and skills they will need when they join the workforce. Therefore, the education system
helps select and allocate individuals into their future work roles. Although many sociologists agree
this is the main role of education, they argue whether this is a positive thing or a negative thing.
Whereas Functionalists believe this role of education benefits society and ... Show more content on

Althusser also argues that pupils learn a smokescreen so they cannot see inequality and the lie of
meritocracy. He claims that schools try to promote the belief of meritocracy this basically means
success is based on your own merit and ability. This supposedly helps motivate pupils to work hard
because if they do they will succeed in life and in their chosen careers. However Althusser believes
this is a lie as schools are in no way meritocratic. This is shown through the fact that the middle
classes have more opportunity i.e. being able to afford the best possible education etc. Althusser
believes that schools teach working class pupils to blame themselves for social failure instead of
society i.e. if pupils fail they will usually say they didn t work hard enough etc. Although schools have
a role of promoting the ruling class ideology, educations main role is to mould pupils into ideal
workers which helps prop up and maintain capitalism.
Durkheim also believes education has the important role of teaching the skills needed for work and
that it has an allocation function which helps people fit into the right roles in society. It has been
suggested that this helps prepare young people for their future work roles through the teaching of
specialist skills. Functionalist Parsons builds on Durkheim s ideas.

What Patriotism Means To Me
Everyone can be a patriot. The actions you perform everyday is what can make beneficial advances
towards the great nation of the United States. Patriotism is about what you can do for your country or
nation, and the hard work you put into. You don t have to be a hero or a big name to one. Patriotism
has no limit or segregation. Patriotism can be explained in many ways and forms, but I will explain
what the word means to me. I learned a lot early on in my life about patriotism, my great grandpa was
a WWII veteran and an avid believer in doing his country good. Some of what I believe in now
originally, came from the stories he told me of how the men he fought alongside and their courage to

Culture is defined as asocial heritage of a group; it influences how people communicate with each other. Also referred to as the cumulative deposit experience, values, customs often affected by religious beliefs, it varies from one community to the other, it is transmitted through language and arts, from one generation to the next. Cultural identity is feeling of belonging to a group, it is an element that is brought about when a person comprehends his/her own culture, it is part of a person s self conception and perception and this helps the person to also comprehend and appreciate the culture of other people as well. It is related to nationality, religion, ethnicity, generation or any kind of social group that has its own distinct culture. So culture plays an important role in one s life because it is a strong factor in shaping one s identity. In my life, culture identity is very important because it tells who I am. It has shaped me into the person I am now. I am coming from culture that has had an impact on my norms, values , and beliefs. • 3. Students Disrespectful In Schools Why are students disrespectful in schools? There is no specific factor for disrespectful students in schools. Students are mocking teachers. You re a terrible teacher! No one cares about school. Teachers are humiliating students in front of their peers. Consistently criticizing students for their lack of enthusiasm, laziness, insubordination, and ungratefulness. Students fight amongst themselves, compete against one another in an effort to achieve high marks even if it means cheating on assignments and assessments. Unfortunately, this epidemic of disrespect needs to be acknowledged. Why? Because the rapid changes we have witnessed in our schools in the 21st Century has become a troubling phenomenon. As teachers, we are to provide a safe and positive learning environment conducive to learning. We have a simple job and that is to teach students material and to make sure they understand it. Unfortunately, we have those students who make our lives difficult. They have complete disrespect for their teachers as well as their peers because they are disrupting the classroom affecting the learning abilities of those students who want to be there. Most students lean toward this type of behavior when teachers are trying to discipline them. We enforce discipline because it is our job to make sure the learning environment stays focused. Other students don t want to hear their classmates disrupting the lesson by talking back to teachers or arguing with their peers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fast Food Advertising Effects On Childhood Obesity The Impact of Fast Food Advertising on Childhood Obesity The writer Heidi Murkoff once said, As obesity creeps into preschools, and hypertension and type II diabetes become pediatric problems for the very first time, the case for starting preventive health care in the cradle has become too compelling to keep ignoring. What Murkoff shows is that obesity is turning into an issue, especially among children. The book Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss demonstrates how food corporations use advertising to persuade people, especially children to buy their foods. Lately, obesity has been hitting the United States in incredible numbers. Children who are overweight are more likely to be obese when they get older; therefore, they are at a higher risk of developing all the health issues that obesity causes. Diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease are only some of the many diseases that a person can face by being obese. Fast food advertising has a huge impact on childhood obesity and it is a great contribution to the problem; however, the FTC should be able to reduce advertising to children. The food industry claims that advertising affects only children s brand preferences, however, scientific evidence suggests that advertising influences children s eating inclinations and habits more broadly. The big fast food corporations have discovered that children are an incredible source of income due to their susceptibility when it comes to food. Toddlers have a high influence on their ... In the main body of this essay, this idea will be addressed by pointing out advantages and disadvantages of participant observation. I will give examples to support my argument. Participant observation is the main research method favoured by interpetitivists. It involves the researcher participating in a social group to observe and experience the world as a participant while still observing the group for future analasys of their behaviour from the researchers point of view. Participants face the problem of objectivity, it is often very time consuming, for example, Beverly Skeggs (1997), spent 12 years researching the lives of women on a caring course in England. Participants also face dangers and can also find themselves in situations they find morally unacceptable or illegal. Quantitative researchers samples are too small and while the researcher may get the bulk of his/her information from structured questions, they are not getting peoples true opinions. The conclusions can only apply to the specific group which the researcher has studied and cannot be generalised or replicated. The observer himself decides what information to select or omit and the fact that the observer is present in overt observations, it is believed that the group will not act naturally. This therefore questions the validity of the data collected. There are also many advantages to participant observation compared with other research methods. By preparing a questionaire, the researcher has already decided what questions he wants to ask and what information is important to the study. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Aim of Man Essays Khouanchay (Kay) Krueger Mr. Matthew Adams English 150 SB Annotation 4 October 9, 2010 Aristotle The Aim of Man Aristotle starts off in his essay explaining the definitions of Good, Primacy of Statecraft and the study of Ethics. He defines good as where all things are to be aimed, for example health. He then defines Statecraft as citizens of a state, a country, and of the world need to do good for their own good but more importantly for the good of the state. He also characterizes various types of good. Finally, the definition on study of Ethics. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses the metaphor of a chameleon to illustrate this. We are all different and when you think of a chameleon, you first think of colors and personalities. In his example as a visual we can say that people s happiness ranges so far and in between. My response to the topic about the aim of man is that I agree that we all strive to achieve the very same goal as Aristotle points out; which is happiness. I think that his essay captures his definition of happiness well by repeating it several times throughout. This is effective to me because it is a repetitive way to enforce the topic. I agree with Aristotle especially that one does not know happiness until they can make the discernment. For the same reason he stated that a child can not be happy. I like his definition to happiness because it isn t just characterized by good fortunes but it is much deeper in that it derives from the soul with perfect righteousness. I can identify a strength of the essay is that he doesn t get off the topic often. He touches about wealth and how that isn t the true source of happiness but quickly closes on the subject and goes back to the good that we are seeking. Another example where he does this was towards the end, he briefly talks about sleep is an inactivity of the soul. He clearly dismisses the subject by pointing out its irrelevance. This makes the essay easier to follow. Another strength that I notice was he used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uranium metal fuel to generate thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within the core. Two types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA) and Pile Grade B (PGB). Youth of today, all around the world, have grown up in the midst of rapid technological development. It now plays a part in the social, work, leisure, and private spheres of people s lives. Adults perceive youth interactions online as negative, harming their ability to develop and function in the adult world. Youth perceive their involvement in online culture quite differently, seeing it as a way to keep socially connected, express themselves, and participate in society. Youth do not need to change their behaviours to suit adult s perceptions, but rather, adults and youth need to be more understanding of the other s views. Adult concepts regarding youth online culture are mostly negative and result from the moral panic of current society promoted by the media. Gray s blog article (2014) draws attention to and challenges stereotypical views that adults hold about youth online. Firstly, that youth are simply wasting time on the internet when they could be doing school work, going out, or being active. Secondly, that it is socially isolating, preventing youth from going out and physically interacting with peers in person. One example would be with Key Peele videos and how racist they are in their videos but what makes them different is that they are trying to teach a lesson with their videos. Such as in their video named Racist Zombies when there is a zombie apocalypse and all the white people in the world are turned into zombies but there are no black zombies because they aren t attacked. The point behind that video is that they are trying to teach about racism and how bad it is looked upon but they use comedy to somewhat mask the pain from the racism but still get a point ... • 29. Classroom Behavior Management And Its Effects On Students... Classroom behavior management is considered to be one of the most important factors to determine student s behaviors. With that being said, the study evaluated classroom behavior strategies that are aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). According to research, the impact of SW PBIS has reduced problem behaviors and increased academic performance. However, despite the increase of PBIS many teachers continue to struggle with managing student behavior in the classroom (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). Often times ineffective classroom management negatively impacts students behaviors in where they are given less academic instruction. This is important because teacher s implementation of effective practices becomes affected by their job demands. Teachers are therefore less likely to have effective implementations if they are emotionally exhausted or lack self efficacy (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). More importantly, if teachers implement PBIS in their classrooms with positive stated rules and expectations they are more likely to praise their students and reduce behavioral problems. Whereas, teachers with higher rates of student disruptive behavior are more likely to have lower self efficacy and emotional exhaustion (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). By all means, support has to be given to teachers in the field to protect children from having negative teacher student interactions. The study underscores the necessity to access ... To begin, the time period that Odyssey is a part of is known as Homeric society. Homeric society is a concoction of diverging assortments in various points in history. Because the setting is a combination of different times from several coteries, the story includes many ideas and values particular to each one. In the 8th century BC, the Mediterranean saw a growth in population after the dark age, thus leading to the menagerie that the Ancient Greeks partook in. • 31. Describe The Role Of Fatty Acid In Metabolism Research Paper The catabolism of fatty acids is the breakdown of food to release energy. Saturated fatty acids are those which have a single bond between the carbon atoms whereas, unsaturated fatty acids are those which have at least one double bond in their structure. The catabolism of both types of fatty acids produce higher energy yields of 9kcal per gram of fat compared to alcohol with 7kcal per gram and only 4kcal per gram in carbohydrates and proteins. Energy is the capacity to do work which initially comes from the sun. Energy is needed by the body for voluntary work, maintaining body functions, homoeostasis and metabolic integrity. The breakdown of fatty acids only occur when there is a lack of energy. One way to gain energy is through food. Fatty acids inside food are distributed to cells for muscular contraction and general metabolism. Metabolism is the interconversion of different chemicals in the body such as catabolism (exergonic reaction releasing energy) and anabolism (endergonic reaction requiring energy). Pecola let white beauty standards deform her life. People believe that having the bluest eyes would change the way people viewed her and her view of others. Whiteness being superior is shown throughout the entire text through implicit messages. The title of the story explains the book basically. Pecola had a strong aspiration for blue eyes. She had a certain insight on having blue eyes that wasn t necessarily correct. Pecola didn t believe she was up to the beauty standards of the society. She honestly believed that the cruel things she is put through on the daily is the effect of how she is seen by others. She has a honest feeling that if she obtains blue eyes people will look at her and treat her differently because she feels like she ll be closer to the beauty standards and being accepted. The thought process of Pecola was that if she had those pretty blue eyes people would not want to do negative things to or in front of her. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you see someone improving and you know you had a hand in that improvement. But occupational therapy transcends all other types of therapy for me because it involves helping people on a more emotional and psychological level. Being able to volunteer and observe occupational therapists at work showed me children who were often not able to complete daily tasks. The Senate, however, exists in its current form primarily for the purpose of legislative review. Notwithstanding the many shortcomings of the Senate, it is an important institution that serves an essential purpose. Although it is rarely commended publicly for its accomplishments, other public servants and academics praise the Senate for the breadth and quality of its investigative and scrutiny functions in committee (Smith, 2003). In order to understand the Senate, one must distinguish the roles of the upper and lower houses. While the House of Commons serves the elective function of making or unmaking government the Senate is not a confidence chamber and thus serves a distinct, yet equally relevant role (Smith, 2003). The Senate, and bicameralism more broadly, was instituted as a constraint on government. Its justification rests on obstruction: rather than empower, it restrains government (Smith, 2003). This impediment to the unchecked power of the House of Commons justifies the preservation of the Senate as an institution. While some consider the Senate unnecessary or redundant, it is an essential element of Canadian government. However, despite its significance, it is not particularly well liked and some consider it to be the most criticized institution of government in Canada (Frank, 1988). This paper will discuss some common slang terms and see if there is a significant difference between the generations. Two hypotheses were used for this research project. The reason that there are two is explained in the paper. They original hypothesis for this paper was: slang terms from different generations are so vastly different that it would be very hard to differentiate the meanings. However Althusser believes this is a lie as schools are in no way meritocratic. This is shown through the fact that the middle classes have more opportunity i.e. being able to afford the best possible education etc. Althusser believes that schools teach working class pupils to blame themselves for social failure instead of society i.e. if pupils fail they will usually say they didn t work hard enough etc. Although schools have a role of promoting the ruling class ideology, educations main role is to mould pupils into ideal workers which helps prop up and maintain capitalism.
