THEORY OF POPULATION EXPLOSION
 MALTHUSIANTHEORY OF POPULATION
GROWTH
The theory was proposed byThomas Robert
Malthus. It explains that population grows in
geometrical fashion.it would be double in 25
years at this rate. However, the food supply
grows in an arithematic progression. Food
progression increase at a slower rate than
population.
 CHECKS ON POPULATION
People will die due to lack of food supply .
adversities such as epidemics ,starvation ,
famines and other natural calamities will crop
up which are named as positive checks by
Malthus.
On the contrary, there are man made checks
known as preventive checks.
POSITIVE
CHECKS
 Famine
 Earthquakes
 Foods
 Wars
 Epidemics
 Late marriage
 Self control
 Simple living
PREVENTIVE
CHECKS
 MARXIST THEORY ON
POPULATION GROWTH
Karl Marx was a philosopher and the founder of
modern communism. According to him:
》There can be no natural or universal law of
population
》Population growth is related to economic system
and both are inseparable
》To Marx poverty and unemployment were not
due to increased population ,but due to capitalist
system which failed to provide jobs.
