You are going to follow the given plans to plan, mark and cut roof members to accommodate a timber
fascia and barge board to meet the NCC and Australian Standards. You will install timber verge
gable eaves, timber box gable eaves and eaves. The constructions will have an apex on the barge
board, a junction between the barge board and the plumb fascia, a junction of the fascia and eave
lining at the valley and a junction of the fascia and eave lining at the hip.

Calculate your gable end
You are required to calculate the ‘pitched roof component’ of the ‘Gable End’. Please complete
the calculations below.
Your teacher will provide you with a ‘Roof Pitch’ or you may need to do a site measure. The
correct calculation and construction of this component will be assessed by your teacher.

Assessment Conditions
Assessmentwill bealways conducted in simulated work environment CIT Bruce under teacher
supervision. If at any stage the assessor deems the assessmentto be unsafeit will be stopped, and this
will count as your first attempt. Access toallresources, manual and standards is permitted. All mobile
phones are to be switchoff during the assessment.
Materials Provided by CIT
All plans, materials and tools required to complete the taskwill be provided.
Materials You Need
Personal protective equipment PPE and nail bag and a device to access Ready Skills.
Attempts
You may have at least two (2) attempts for this assessment.
 If your first attempt is not successful, your teacher will discuss your results with you and will arrange
a second attempt.
 If your second attempt is not successful, you may be required to re-enrol in this unit.
