Cognitive Development And
Technology.
85% 0f a child’s brain
development occurs
before the age of five.
Create technological learning
centers equipped with
computers, iPads, tablets,
DVDs, VCRs etc.
Use DAP interactive media and
resources to supplement
classroom activities and lessons.
Use simple technological jargon
when communicating with
children.
Technology as a tool to support cognitive
development in young children
Allow the use of technological
equipment and resources to make
learning interesting and fun. For example
digital cameras, video recorders,
interactive educational programs.
 Teachers can use digital cameras and video recorders to
record daily observations.
 Problem-solving simple quizzes or worksheets.
 Interactive puzzles
 One to one correspondence (matching)
Technology as a tool to assess
cognitive development.
Integrate
technological devices
into daily activities
and lessons.
Use of assistive technology
to make learning inclusive.
MY
TECHNOLOGICALLY-
BASED CLASSROOM
I would…
Make use of online stories, interactive puzzles,
interactive videos and other creative
technological tools capable of making learning
interesting and engaging.
STEPS TO INTEGRATE TECHNOLOGY IN THE
CLASSROOM
 Design learning centers with technological tools (computers, tablets etc).
 Ensure equal access, opportunity and participation amongst children.
 Use developmentally appropriate educational software.
 Use developmentally appropriate websites.
 Educate the children on computer usage and introduce them to
technological tools.
 Educate the group about the uses and misuses of technology (digital
citizenship and digital behaviour).
 Integrate technological tools into the curriculum.
Summary of technological choices.
Technology and all associated devices make learning interesting and engaging. It
is developmentally appropriate and should be integrated into the Early
Childhood Education curriculum as early as possible.
It affords young children with knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for them
to bec0me competent digital users.
As an Early Childhood educator I would make use of computers, touch screen
devices, digital cameras and also interactive media resources to support
children’s cognitive development.
