Android 7.0 Nougat introduced several new features including split-screen multitasking, Night Mode for darker color schemes after sunset, improved Doze Mode for better battery life, enhanced notifications, support for virtual reality with Daydream VR, app shortcuts, new gestures, use of the Vulkan graphics API, and various other under-the-hood improvements and additions to accessibility settings. The first beta version was released in March 2016 ahead of Google I/O and it was officially named Android Nougat in July after going through multiple beta and preview stages before final release.
