OTHER INFORMATION

• Techniques in effectively preparing, organizing, and delivering
speeches in both academic and other settings
• Techniques of oral presentation and persuasion
• Use of visual aids (pictures, charts, graphs, power point) to
enhance speaker presentations
• Cultural conventions and verbal/non-verbal messages in
public speeches
COURSE OVERVIEW
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
• Plan a presentation by determining audience needs and gathering relevant information/materials
• Organize the presentation with relevant and logical supporting ideas
• Develop the introduction and conclusion of the presentation
• Apply verbal and non-verbal techniques when delivering a presentation
• Apply visual aids to enhance presentations
• Reduce stress when delivering the presentation
• Effectively handle questions and other problems in and after the presentation

REQUIRED MATERIALS
ASSESSMENT AND GRADING SCHEME
Component Weightage
Group presentation 1 30%
Mini presentation 2 21%
Final presentation 49%
Total number of groups required: 8
Time allowed: no more than 30 minutes (presentation) and 5 minutes (Q & A)
Group size: 2–3 students/group (negotiated when needed)
• All team members must take part in the oral presentation, the topic of which is to
be assigned accordingly.
• Once formed, groups cannot be changed.
• Order of group presentation is determined randomly by drawing lots.
• Any addition and/or changes of group members must be approved by the Instructor.

GROUP PRESENTATIONTOPICS
• Content: adequacy of lesson content (as assigned)
• Delivery:
Accuracy: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation
Fluency: speech delivery
Excellent: extremely smooth at a highly fast pace without any noticeable hesitation
Good: smooth and slightly fast with some hesitation
Moderate: fairly smooth but slow at times (hesitation still evident)
Bad: slow and interrupted at times (hesitation strongly evident)
Very bad: very slow and constantly interrupted with prolonged pauses
