From Zero  Hero
In 9 Steps
Be passionate about your topic
1. If you are not passionate about your
topic you cannot deliver a good
presentation
2. Passion is contagious. It will affect your
audience positively.
3. Do not ‘sell’ to your audience. ‘Help’
your audience.
Tell me a Story
1. Stories work best when we need to persuade
people.
2. Your audience will remember your stories for
a long time.
3. As per Aristotle we need three things to
persuade; Logic, Credibility & Emotions.
Most modern day presentations heavily lack
the emotional element.
4. Tell 3 types of stories. About yourself, about
others and stories of brands/companies.
Have a Conversation
1. Present as if you are talking to your audience. Be
natural.
2. Seek feedback when you rehearse your
presentation. The more you rehearse, the more
natural you will feel while presenting.
3. Focus on your verbal delivery. The speed of talking,
the pitch, the volume and the pauses.
4. Move around. Use hand gestures. Do not hold back.
Teach me something new
1. Make your information exciting. Take the risk.
2. Our brain does not pay attention to boring
things.
3. If your audience remembers only on thing,
what will it be? Come up with the core
message in one sentence (preferably in a
tweetable sentence). Being concise, will give
you clarity of thought.
Deliver a Jaw-dropping
moment
1. Plan one moment in your presentation which
will remembered for a long time.
2. Surprise people or make them afraid. Make
them laugh or make them cry. Example: Bill
Gates had once released mosquitos in the
audience and sent a chill down their spine.
Make me laugh
1. Our brain loves novelty but it also loves
humor.
2. Humor lowers your audiences defenses.
They become more receptive to your
message.
3. Find humor in your story/anecdotes and not
in jokes. Stay relevant. Be true to yourself.
4. Sources of humor: Story, anecdote, quote,
video, analogy & photos.
Present in under 18 minutes
1. 18 minutes is the ideal time to make a presentation.
2. If you have to present for more time, add a break
after every 10 minutes. As per research, human
attention plummets after 10 minutes. Break can be
a demo, an exercise or a video.
3. The lesser you talk the better. Forcing yourself to
talk less, brings clarity of thought and increases
audience understanding & retention.
Deliver a Multisensory Experience
1. See, hear, touch, smell and taste. Try to engage as
many senses of your audience as possible. Your
presentation will become more impactful.
2. Display information visually. Use pictures. Use very
few words every slide.
3. Have one theme per slide.
4. Give concrete examples and stay away from
abstractions.
5. Are people feeling what you want them to? Have a
blank slide so they give you 100% attention. Now
draw them in. Connect with them.
Stay in your lane
1. Be authentic. Be who you are (on and
off the stage).
2. Be open and transparent.
3. Speak from your heart and you will
create magic.
