What is curriculum ?
 All the learning which is planned and guided by the
school , whether it is carried on in groups or
individually, inside or outside the school.
(kerr,1968)
Education In Pakistan
 In Pakistan the education system is three tier:
1: Elementary (grade 1-8) Elementary education in
Pakistan has two stages :
 Primary stage: it comprises classes 1-5 and enrolls student of age group 5+
to 9+….
 Middle stage: A three year Middle stage consists of classes 6 to 8
corresponding to age group 10+ to 12+
2: Secondry (grade 9-12) has two stages:
 High (grades nine and ten,leading to the secondary school certificate)
 Intermediate (grades eleven and twelve ,leading to a higher secondary school
certificate)
3: University programs:leading to graduate and advance
degrees.
Higher Education Curriculum
 The higher education curriculum in Pakistan is the function of the
respective departments of the university or colleges.
 Role of Higher Education Commission (HEC)

 Functions of the HEC
Role of Ministry of Education
The 1976 act of parliament authorized the Ministry of education (MOC) To
appoint competent Authorities to perform the curriculum Function.
 The main function of the ministry of education is
to plan and review the National Curriculum and to
make it more vibrant and responsive to the
modern socio-economic ,technical ,professional
and labor market needs of the country and
comparable with international standards
 Curriculum Wings
The fedral Government through notification in 1976
nominated the curriculum wings of the ministry of
education as the competent authority for classes 1-12
and the University grand commission.
Role of curriculum wings
 Improvement in quality of printing and award of prizes
 Development of supplementary readers
 Promotion of concept for use of multiple Text books
Text Book Board
 Textbook board (PTTB)of one in each province.Within
their respective jurisdictions ,these PTTBs are responsible
for preparing,publishing,stocking,distributing and
marketing school textbooks
The provincial textbook in addition to
development of textbook,are conducting
the following function:
 Research and surveys of textbook by the staff of textbook
board.
 Training of authors, Writers, designers, etc.Of the
textbook.

Role Of Teacher In curriculum
Qualities Of Teacher
 Teacher know the needs of all stakeholders of teacher
education.
 Teacher can understand the psychology of the
learner.
 Teachers are aware about the teaching methods and
teaching strategies.
 Teacher also play the role as evaluator for the
assessment of learning outcomes.
 Teacher as planner, Designer, Manager, Evaluator,
Researcher, Decision maker and Administrator.
 Curriculum development usually performed by
committees of educators working together at school,
District, and state or provincial levels.
Use of Curriculum
 When the Curriculum Materials produced by committees
are disseminated throughout a School , other Teachers
may be encouraged to use the new materials.

Teacher says about him participation in
curriculum
 Teacher wanted to expand their role to include
curriculum development, primarily because it enhanced
their classroom teaching.
 They believed their committee work had positive effect
on their teaching because it introduced them to new
ideas and materials and generally stimulated their
thinking.
 It is such terrific work because it’s just so
stimulating,it’s so exciting, and so refreshing, because I
can go back to my classroom with all these wonderful
ideas of things I can do
School Principals participation in
curriculum Development
 School Principals are in a key position to give
participation in curriculum development the status it
deserves as Ross points out, Principals exercise control
over rewards, recognition, and the revised scheduling
that permits joint plaining by teacher.
