The Platter The Platter Is the hard drives storage location. All information is written onto it using a magnetic code via the Actuator arm. The Platter is very shiny. Any mark on it can and will corrupt the entire hard drive. Do not open your hard drive in attempt to see the platter. Some modern hard drives can have many platters. BACK Brady Harrison
Actuator Arm The Actuator arm is the writing tool of the hard drive. All information that is to be stored it written onto the platter Via this with a magnetic code. Hard drives are susceptible to strong magnetic forces. The Actuator arm is suspended with two strong magnets. These allow it to function properly. As with the Platter, do not attempt to dismantle your hard drive to get a glimpse at this. BACK Brady Harrison
Disc Drive The Disc drive is the place that the CD goes, The CD is drawn into the drive and its information read by the laser. Most modern drives can also run DVD discs, These drives are called DVD-R drives. BACK Brady Harrison
Disc Drive Laser Most Disc drives use a Simple Red-Ray Laser. These are a typical way of accessing information from CD’s Some of the more advanced hard drives use a Blue-Ray Laser, this can read discs that have more information stored on them than normal BACK Brady Harrison
Floppy Drive The Floppy Drive used to be used to backup or move information. However, It was only able to move small amounts at a time. The Floppy drive was originally much larger than it is now. Floppy discs have shrunk down form over seven inches to only three and a half. BACK Brady Harrison
