Introduction
 Mingora Emerald deposit known as Swat Emerald mines
 cover an area of about 182 Acres
 Mining start in 1958 under the Wali of swat Miangul Abdul HaqJahanzeb
 After 1969 PIDC run the Mine up to 1972
 Provincial government , PMDC & GC run the Mine up to 1995
 In Sep1996 the Mine was hands over to EMERALD MINING COMPANY
 In 2009 the Mine was taken by local Taliban
 Now Mine is handed over to M/S FAZAl KHALIQ & Company
4
PIDC (Pakistan industrial Development Corporation)
GC (Gemstone corporation)
Location
 Alternate names Mingora mine , Fizagat mine
 Situated in the close proximity of Mingora town in district swat
 At a distance of about 130 miles to the northeast of Peshawar
 200 miles northwest of Islamabad
 The Mines are closed to the main Swat highway
 Nearest to Railway station Durgai about 50 miles to the southwest
5
Geology
 Emerald is a gemstone and its formula is 𝐵𝑒3 𝐴𝑙2(𝑠𝑖𝑂3)6
 Swat Emerald Mines area comprised of
 Low-grade Chlorite-Mica schist’s: youngest units , grayish green color
 Amphibolites: underlie the chlorite-mica schist , black to green in color
 Carbonate-tale schist: underlie the amphibolites, Emerald rich
 Dykes: two types older dykes , younger dykes
 Serpentinites: two types older serpentinites , younger
 Quartz Vein: two types Quartz-calcite-talc-mica veins, Quartz-talc vein
6
Previous working
 world good class emeralds are being explored since 1958 from Swat mine
 most of the emerald recovered from Mine No.1 and Mine No.2 areas
 The Swat Emerald mine is divided as
 Mine No.1: divided into two faces , Islamia , Farooq , 80 feet, not finished
 Mine No.2 : two working faces , North and South face, fault line is present
 Sarkan Area: It is on top of Mine No 1,2 ,main fault line is passing through it
 Caral Trench: It is close to Mine No.1, hard rock composes of quartz
7
Proposed working plan
 In 2012 M/s karim and company proposed a working plan to Government
 Following short term plan will be carried out at Mine1, Mine2 ,Mine3 area
 Mine 1: Debries produced during illegal mining/rainfall which have buried the
mineralized body should be cleared in 3 months
 Mine2:- The debries removal work would be started from the South and North
faces of M2 to clear in 5 months
 Sarkan area: It is the extreme north of the Swat Emerald Mine and the present adit
should need proper timbering
 Sarkan:- This area is badly affected by the fault line and the cracks developed will
have to be removed through Mine machinery
8
Mine supporting facilities
 following supporting facilities are available
 Work shop: contain hand electric drill machine or a column mounted drill machine,
electric grinding machines, a small welding unit
 Store: contain maintenance tools and equipment's electric fittings, buildings and
maintenance store clothing/uniform etc
 Lamp Room: Room will be used as a storage and maintenance of lamps
 First Aid Room: contain safety and mine rescue kits along with first ointment and
equipment is kept ready for emergency
 Canteen
