- Stroke can varied to any length.
- Safe operation.
Operations
of
Press Machine
BLANKING
Blanking is a cutting process in which a piece of sheet metal is removed
from a larger piece of stock by applying a great enough shearing force.
PERFORATING NOTCHING
Punching a close
arrangement of a large
number of holes in a
single operation.
Punching the edge of a
sheet, forming a notch in
the shape of a portion of
the punch.
NIBBLING BENDING
Punching a series of small
overlapping slits or holes along a
path to cut out a larger contoured
shape. This eliminates the need for
a custom punch and die but will
require secondary operations to
improve the accuracy and finish of
the feature.
Punching / Piercing
Slotting
The typical punching
operation, in which a
cylindrical punch
pierces a hole into the
sheet.
A punching operation
that forms rectangular
holes in the sheet.
LANCING
Creating a partial cut
in the sheet, so that
no material is
removed. The
material is left
attached to be bent
and form a shape,
such as a tab, vent,
or louver.

PRESS COMPONENTS
BOLSTER PLATE ( C.I. / C.S. )
A plate that is designed to hold in place the lower die. The
bolster plate is attached to the top surface of the press bed.
Punch Tool ( High Carbon steel, Cr )
The tool typically attached to the upper portion of the die
set that shapes or penetrates the sheet metal.
Material is designed for excellent wear resistance,
toughness, and strength.
Die Block
The main tool typically attached to the lower portion
of the die set. The die contains a recess that provides
space for the shaping or shearing of sheet metal.
RAM
- It is a Mechanical heavy duty hammer to create the load.
-Attached with driving mechanism.
- It can hold the tools.
Die Set / Die Shoe
TONNAGE CAPACITY
FECTORS:
1,STRENGTHOFPRESSBODY
2,TORSIONAL STRENGTHOFSHAFT
3,K.E.OFFLYWHEEL
4,MOTORHORSEPOWER
 SHUT HEIGHT
 CLEARANCE
 reasons for die clearance
1, To obtain properly designed profile.
2, To maintain efficiency
3, To reduce wear.
4, Prevent wastage.
5, Good surface finish.
6, To obtain continuity.
7, Regulate power consumption.
Terms used in Bending process:
1)Bend Radii
2) Bending allowance
3)Spring back
BA= Bending allowance
A= angle of bend
R= bend radius
t= distance from inner side face
to neutral-line
T=material thickness
B= length without bend
C= change in length after bending
Compound Die and Progressive Die:
Compound Die - A die designed to
simultaneously perform more than one
operation with each stroke of the press. For
example, a compound die may blank and pierce
in a single stroke.
Progressive Die - A die containing a series of
stations that perform one press operation after
another in series. A progressive die gradually
forms a part as it moves through the die, and the
last operation separates the part.

Driving Mechanisms of press Machine:
1) Hydraulic press drive
2) Crank press drive
3) Knuckle joint press drive
4) Rack and pinion press drive
5) Screw press drive
6) Eccentric press drive

BLANKING PUNCHING
- The removed part from
stock material is useful and
is known as blank.
- The removed part from
stock material is scrap. The
sheet is useful part.
- Clearance is applied to
punch.
- Clearance is applied to die.
- Shape is other than
circular.
- Shape created by the punch
is always circular.
- Die Governs the size of the
blank.
- Punch governs the size of
hole.
Bending Forming
- The bend axis is straight. - The bend axis is curved.
- V, U are the bend
operations.
- Curling is Forming
operation.
- The thickness of material is
constant.
- The thickness of material is
reducing.
- In this operation the less
strain is created.
- In this operation the more
strain is created.
