• #2: Private clouds have become a major catalyst for business growth and differentiation. Along with public clouds, they are leading the way to a far more agile, open environment for development and innovation, providing developers with unbridled access to the resources they need to design, build and deploy differentiating products and services faster than ever before. Private clouds are also leveraging automation more extensively than ever before to solve problems and improve operational efficiencies, and they are churning out substantial cost savings in the process. And these benefits are just the beginning. As cloud computing moves into the hybrid era, the business impact is expected to broaden exponentially in ways that have yet to be fully understood. In this presentation, we’ll look at the core differentiators that distinguish the highest performing private clouds. We’ll discuss the choices you need to make when considering private cloud to optimize your return today, but also to prepare your environment for hybrid cloud computing, which is a certainty at this point. We’ll talk about what you need to know about private cloud deployment, management and services, based on the latest research, technologies and solutions.
• #3: IBM believes that for most organizations, particularly those that have substantial investments in IT, the right approach is not private cloud or public cloud. In some cases [give private cloud example] the combination of private cloud and traditional IT is the right answer for organizations. Others [give public cloud example] benefit greatly from the quick execution and ROI from a public cloud. The future will be dynamic hybrid because it leverages the best of both worlds and allows for better outcomes. For companies with large IT investments, Hybrid allows you to Maximize return on existing IT investments by transforming IT into self-service private clouds Hybrid allows you to keep some workloads on best fit infrastructure, and move others to public cloud for better economics Hybrid lets you keep critical, sensitive data in house, while innovating on public so you have the right balance of risk to speed e.g. connect ERP to public CRM to enhance client experience. Hybrid will lets you extend your current IT and private clouds with public capabilities to meet seasonal capacity requirements (e.g. holiday shopping), without the need for additional CapEx Hybrid allows you to set up development environments quickly for innovation and add new capabilities like analytics or mobile software as a service on public quickly, to compose more competitive business services and processes. In fact, this last point is really a critical one… (next slide)
• #7: The cloud block infrastructure has been designed to incorporate industry best practices and security standards in a modular framework for solutions covering Microsoft Windows and Linux systems. Our solution helps address server, storage and network requirements in expandable modules for small, medium and large enterprise requirements. The software stack of our solution leverages VMware and IBM® Tivoli® technologies to provide automated provisioning, software patch management, middleware and database compliance. Features of the solution include: We provide onsite cloud infrastructure implementation as standard. Private Modular Cloud offers the following capabilities: • Automated cloud initialization • Centralized hypervisor management • Automated middleware and database provisioning, and tooling • Scalability from 100 virtual machines (VMs) to thousands • Metering and chargeback • Centralized management database and directory services. Several services are available as options, and they can be added to the base offering as needed: OS and middleware and database application store (optional) OS and middleware and database deployment Compliance and software level patch management Remote cloud management services (optional) Data protection services (optional) Disaster recovery Point-in-time recovery Application awareness Storage archiving • Event monitoring and management • Performance and capacity management • Patch management • Storage management • Workload capacity controls, optimization and analytics. • #9: Over the last three years, IBM has used automated application pattern deployment technologies to deliver operational efficiencies to over 70 different clients globally in a variety of industries with scope varying from single deployments to thousands of deployments. In the process of performing these engagements, IBM has been able to deliver operational efficiencies resulting from 60 percent and up to 80 percent reduction in the efforts required to perform such tasks using traditional, manual deployment methods. Previously deployed countries include: Netherland, Denmark, Australia, USA, Germany, Columbia, Canada, France, India, UK, Singapore, China, Japan, Brazil, Belgium, Spain, Mexico and Indonesia In 2013, this same technology has been combined with a self-service provisioning user interface to help accelerate the provisioning of a complete virtual system inclusive of the operating system (OS), the resources allocated to that virtual machine and a customizable middleware application library. Offered as part of the IBM Private Modular Cloud solution, an organization can scale its private cloud infrastructure as the demand for IT resource and content grows.

• #11: This slide illustrates the three basic steps to create a platform-as-a-service cloud environment:   First, we use IBM automation scripts to install the cloud management stack. These automation scripts use IBM's best practices and expertise on integration and ongoing run-time of software products and capture this intellectual property for reusable automation. This automation eliminates a tremendous amount of manual work.   Next, we help build your platform-as-a-service patterns and service catalog using our library of over 200 reusable, fully supported patterns ready for automated deployment.   And finally, our services help reduce the cycle time of installation, testing and validation.   Our unique automation across these three steps allows you to build a fully functioning platform-as-a-service within as little as 20 days versus the typical six months required using traditional methods. • #15: With our managed infrastructure for private cloud offering, we can provide a single solution for infrastructure monitoring, management and support spanning the infrastructure and the cloud layers. A private cloud is a dedicated IT infrastructure comprising network, storage, servers and hypervisors with a set of software deployed on top of it that enables the cloud capabilities. This diagram illustrates how the integrated managed infrastructure scope of services is coupled with additional services for managing the cloud software stack to provide a single solution—SmartCloud Management Services - managed infrastructure for private cloud. The scope of services includes: Monitoring and management of the cloud infrastructure (hypervisor, server, storage, network) Monitoring of the cloud software layer (i.e., VCAC 5.1, VMWare vCOPS, VMWare vChargeback) Management of the middleware, groupware and database within the cloud software infrastructure Monitoring and management of the provisioned virtual machines (above hypervisor) IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) service-management disciplines Notice that service management, processes and tools are common across both layers. The solution is delivered through a shared infrastructure with a standard set of monitoring and management tools. In short, our integrated management infrastructure services provide the day-to-day monitoring and management of the cloud infrastructure components, while the managed infrastructure for private cloud services provide the management of the cloud software, including patches, fixes and any problem resolution related to the cloud provisioning, performance and capacity, or metering software components.
