This document summarizes the calculations and requirements for upgrading the carbon dioxide fire suppression system in the engine room of a ferry to accommodate a 20% increase in engine room volume. The objectives are to calculate the new gas requirements, number of CO2 cylinders needed, and piping specifications. The calculations show that 59.24 cubic meters of CO2 gas will be needed, requiring an additional 12 cylinders. The extra mass will cause 0.0311 cm of bodily sinkage in the ship. Pipes, fittings and nozzles must also be upgraded to specifications. The final recommendation is to use total flooding discharge nozzles to efficiently suppress fires.
