Propose a pathway(s) to explain how the ectoderm and the notochord block the ability of the
endoderm to express liver-specific genes during liver formation.
Solution
Some endodermal cells lie in the yolk sac of the cell, a subset of which move forward for the
formation of the liver. Fox-A proteins are responsible for the expression of liver-specific genes It
is the thickening of the intestinal rod tissues that is formed from the ectoderm that blocks the
formation of inner organ tissue at the initial stage. Morphogenesis takes place to facilitate gene
expression in the liver. The amniotes hhex and prox1 are responsible for liver gene expression.
The loss of hhex can retard the formation of liver reduce its size.
The mutants from the notochord block the endoderm to express liver-specific at the early stage
liver formation.
