COUNTABLE NOUNS
* Countable nouns have a singular and
plural form.
* You can add -s.
* You can use: some, the and a/an
before a countable noun.
* Countable nouns can be counted.
(a house, three houses, and so on)

1. A car = Cars.
2. An airplane = Airplanes.

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS
* Uncountable nouns have only one form.
* You can't add -s.
* They are used with a singular verb.
* You can use some and the, but NOT
a/an before an uncountable noun.
* Uncountable nouns can't be counted.
(money, air, and so on)

3. The interest in this loan is very high.
(We use a third singular verb after
the uncountable noun)

usually uncountable as countable nouns
with different meanings.
Examples:
1. I need a coffee. (C) = a cup of coffee.
2. Coffee is grown in many parts of Latin
America. (UN) = the product.

we are making a request or an offer.
Examples:

(Request = Ask for something)

doesn't matter which, how much, when,
and so on.

MUCH AND MANY
* Much means in Spanish mucho and is
used with uncountable nouns. We can used
much in questions and negative statements.
* Many means in Spanish mucho and is used
with countable plural nouns.
Eg: Do you do much exercise?

* Too much and too many mean in Spanish
demasiado or more than necessary.
* Too much and too many are often used for
criticize or complain.
Eg: There’s too much noise!

A LOT OF OR LOTS OF
* A lot of or Lots of means in Spanish mucho.
* We often use a lot of or lots of in affirmative
sentences instead of much or many.
* A lot of or Lots of can be used with countable
and uncountable nouns.
Eg: Does he have lots of money?
I need a lot of eggs to make this cake.

VERY FEW OR VERY LITTLE
* Very few and Very little means in Spanish
muy poco.
* Very few and Very little means a quantity is
not sufficient.
Eg: I have very little time.
She has very few apples at the store.

(A) FEW OR (A) LITTLE
* A few and A little means in Spanish un poco.
* A few is used with countable nouns and A little
with uncountable nouns. They have a positive
meaning.
* But be careful!!! Few and Little have a
negative meaning “Not Enough”.
Eg: He has few friends.
(He would like more friends)
They have a few friends.
(A small number, but not enough)

PLENTY OF
* Plenty of means in Spanish mucho.
* Plenty of means a quantity is more than
sufficient. It can be used with countable and
uncountable nouns.
Eg: She prepared plenty of food for everyone at
the party.

ENOUGH / NOT ENOUGH
* Enough means in Spanish suficiente.
* Enough means sufficient quantity. It can be
used with countable and uncountable nouns.
*Not enough means the quantity is not
sufficient.
Eg:
I think we have enough time to read that book.
We don’t have enough time to discuss this!
