I made a questionnaire to start my primary research. I did this so that I could survey a group of
people and find out what they expected from a music magazine and how I could improve mine
to others that are currently on the market. Within my questionnaire I asked information such as
what type of person they are, what type of music they enjoy listening to and whether or not
they thought my ideas for a music magazine would work.
Within my survey I only collected information from students aged 16-20, this is because it is the
demographic I am aiming my music magazine at, therefore it would be useful to collect data from
them as I would be able to see what would interest them about my magazine. The people within
the group I collected my data from were chosen randomly although I had 50% of males and 50%
of females who took part.
The data collected representing the students income shows that the majority of them receive
money that is below £100 each month and only 20% of the students are employed and earning
between £200 and £400 and only 10% get between £100 and £200, none are earning over £400. .
This means that the price of my magazine would have to be quite low to ensure that it is
affordable for the students to buy.

Rap
The music genre that seems most
common is rock and indie with them both
showing 27% being popular types of music
for my target audience. Pop is also well
liked among students with 23% of people
choosing it as their favourite. House and
R&B both have 9% of people choosing
them as their favourite and Rap is the
least popular with only 5% voting for the
genre. This means that when I create my
magazine that I need to feature mainly
rock indie and pop artists so that my
magazine will be able to reach the largest
demographic possible.
