This document discusses 10 principles of urban design learned from urban design school:
1) Public spaces are occupied from the edges inward as people prefer edges for safety and amenities.
2) Focal points work best off-center to allow people to gather in the center and divide the space.
3) Planting trees along streets extending parks makes the parks more accessible without effort.
4) People respond better to incremental choices to engage spaces rather than binary choices.
5) Design considers pedestrian experiences at 3 mph to maintain interest through frequent rewards.
