meaning; it includes experiencing,
learning, and thinking

connected speech is a
continuous sequence of sounds
forming utterances of
conversations in spoken
language.
TEXT AS CONNECTED DISCOURSE
• Phrases - a small group of words standing
together as a conceptual unit, typically forming a
component of a clause
• Morphemes – smallest meaningful unit of a
language
• Syllables - an uninterrupted segment of speech
consisting of a vowel sound, a diphthong, or a
syllabic consonant, with or without preceding or
following consonant sounds.
