Record label decisions.
- 1. Research into Music Record Labels. BY MOLLIE HARVEY.
- 2. Universal Music Group. • This is one of the largest music corporations in the world. • This record label has performers such as Fall out boy, Florence + the machine, Bastille, Kate Nash, Kayne West, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and many many more. • It consist of a wide range of different artists, and is very successful. • They have represented some very influential and renowned artists such as the Beatles, The beach boys, Rolling stones, U2. • Although they have a mixture of artist in which they represent, I think they try and attract more niche artists, and this is the reason why I feel this record label could be good for my artist, as I am looking for my artist to fit into the niche market.

Interscope Records. • This is an American record label and it became a number 1 charting label in 2013. • The original genre of the record label was hip-hop and urban music and then worked its way into industrial rock. • They represent artists such as the 1975, Azealia banks, Dr Dre, Ellie Golding, Eminem, Imagine dragons, Lana Del Ray and many more. • It is a very successful record label. However, I do not feel it will work that well with my artist. As I feel this is more of a mainstream market where as my artist is more of a niche market.

RCA Records. • This is the second oldest record companies in history. • RCA is the label of pop, rock, R&B and country music. •It represents artists such as A$AP Rocky, Cage the Elephant, Dido, Dry the river, Everything Everything, Kid Ink, Labrinth, Kodaline, Pitbull, Miley Cyrus and many more. • This record label is quite mainstream, and I do not feel it would work that well with my artist as he is more in the area of a niche market.

My Chosen Record Label. • For my band, Gold City, I feel Universal Music group would be the best record label for them. • The reason for this is because I feel it has a much more niche market, which is the market I want my band to be in. • The record label represents a lot of alternative artists, and I feel this is what genre my artist fits into, making this the right record label for my band to be sponsored by. • I feel the record label would know how to work with an artist like ‘Gold City’ and would know how to market them correctly to make sure they get the best out of what they can achieve.
