A relationship is a
social connection
between two or
more people.

Immediate Family Relationships
There are lots of different types of family relationships.
These might include:
Parents
Parent’s
partner
Step Parents Grandparents Foster parent
Sisters Brothers
Half Brother/
Sister
Step
Brother/Sister
You
Pets
Think about and discuss:
• Who is in your immediate family?
• Why are family relationships important?
• Who do you get on well with in your family?
Extended Family Relationships
There are lots of different types of extended family
relationships. These might include:
Grandparents/
Great
Grandparents
Aunts/ Uncles
Grand
Aunts/Uncles
Cousins Nieces/Nephews
You
Think about and discuss:
• What types of extended family
relationships do you have?
• Are there any relations that you would
be closer to than others?
• Is it important to see your extended
family regularly?
Friendships
You might have lots of different types of friendships.
Close friends
Who you might see and talk to regularly
Online friends
Who you might only talk to when online or playing a game
online
Social Media friends
Who you might message when on social networks
Casual friendships (Acquaintances)
Who you might only talk to every now and then
Think about and discuss:
• What types of friendships do you have?
• Are friends important? Why?
• How might you know if someone
was a good friend?
• Making friends is not always easy.

Team mates
You might have relationships with people
you meet through:
• Sports clubs
• Youth groups
• Online gaming
• Music/Band members

similar to friendships?

Romantic Relationships
Romantic relationships include:
Boyfriend Husband
Girlfriend Wife Partners
A romantic relationship might be a bit different
from other relationships as it might
involve being attracted to another person.
It usually involves an emotional, intellectual
and physical attraction to another person.
Think about and
discuss:
Think about and discuss this statement and say

Everyone has their own unique expectations
of romantic relationships.
