The Four Freedoms

The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom
0).

The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it
to your needs (freedom 1).
●
Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
●
The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your
neighbor (freedom 2).
●
The freedom to improve the program, and release your
improvements (and modified versions in general) to the
public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3).

Why use FOSS?

IT keeps budget “under the radar”?
●
Because everyone is doing it?
●
Management/Individual wants to save
money?

Reason:
“It provides a better value...”
Security, Reliability/Stability/Robust Platform, Open standards
and vendor independence, Reduced reliance on imports,
Developing local software capacity Piracy, Localization,
Learning about new environments, Spoilt for choice,
Excellent community-support

Reasons why don't use
Open Source?

events.

Actual Linux and Open Source performance is openly given
by users.

Oracle, MySQL, Zimbra support and/or sponsor FOSS
projects.
