Is Virtual Reality Marketing
the next big thing?
Submitted by: Rishabh Grover
Introduction to VR, AR and MR:
VR
Virtual reality is
something where a
user interacts with a
virtual environment or
virtual world using
equipment or software
that gives him/her a
new experience. It
usually is an
interconnection
between a real and
virtual world.
AR
This can be explained
by the example of
Pokémon Go where
virtual things were
placed in the real
world and user can
interact with them
using camera of their
mobile phones. It is
basically incorporating
something which does
not exist into
something which does
exist.
MR
Mixed reality is a mix
of both virtual and
augmented reality
where real and digital
things or you can call
objects are mixed up
in one another to
enhance the
experience of the user.
Example would be
when real and virtual
things interact with
each other.
How to Implement VR in Your Content
Strategy:
VR is a platform
that helps you
deliver your
message
Showcase your
products
Existing
Audience
Use immersive
storytelling
Why a Marketer should implement VR
technology:
VR experience products which are sold by different brands are likely to attract
62% more consumers.
The VR industry would grow by $33 billion by 2022. That’s a significant
change.
By 2021 the number of VR headsets sold in the market would be
approximately 90 million from 200,000 in 2014. That’s a drastic change.
A survey showed that 71% consumers prefers a brand that uses virtual reality.
Let’s break down Virtual Reality Marketing:
VR technology has indeed various advantages when compared to traditional media like:
radio, billboards, and newspapers. That’s why marketers are more interested in investing
in this.
• Various companies are spending R & D cost to develop products based on the VR
technology as the landscape is changing.
VR is being integrated everywhere, now televisions are becoming 3D instead of 2D.
Everything is voice controlled or automated which is only possible through augmented,
virtual and mixed reality.
• People describes their experience as being in a whole new place or having a whole
new experience just by sitting at their places. This was only possible with the
advancement in technology and rapid adoption of VR, AR and MR.
