This study investigates the risk factors associated with chronic liver disease (CLD) among patients in Calabar, Nigeria, revealing that hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is the predominant cause. A total of 213 participants were analyzed, with results showing a significantly higher prevalence of HBV infection in CLD patients compared to healthy controls. Factors such as unprotected sex, sharing of sharp instruments, and consumption of moldy grains were identified as significant risks for developing CLD.
