INTRODUCTION
Rotary Club is a service club whose stated purpose is to provide
humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all
vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. It is
a secular organization open to all persons regardless of
race, color, creed, religion, gender, or political preference. The
members of Rotary Clubs are known as Rotarians. Members usually meet
weekly for breakfast, lunch or dinner, which is a social event as well as
an opportunity to organize work on their service goals.

It is a matter of great honor for me to serve rotary as the club secretary
as rotary is a helpful service organization to render services to the
neediest at large.

FREE EYE CHECK UP CAMP, 01ST JULY, 2012




1) Eyes, The Light of Life:

Eye is an important organ and people must pay attention to keeping it in good
condition. It is the first day of our tenure, i.e. 1st July 2012, we started with an
eye camp held at Shanti Devi Hospital in which 250 patients were examined and
50 patients were recommended for free operations at Civil Hospital, Gurdaspur.
Also free medicines were given to the neediness. The objective of organizing
the eye camp was to respond to the healthcare needs of our surrounding
community.
MEETING ON 4TH JULY 2012




2) A Board of Director meeting cum dinner was held on 4th July 2012. 23 members
attended the meeting which was very energetic and informative for all of us.
Various points were discussed in the meeting for welfare of the society. Discussions
and suggestions were made about the steps to be undertaken for providing a helping
hand to the needy; also the upcoming activities to be performed by the club were
discussed in the meeting.

3) On 8th July 2012, Sukhmani Sahib Path was organized by “Sukhmani Sahib
Seva Society” and “International society Nam Seva Kendra” at Rotary Bhavan
to attain the blessings of the Almighty to give courage and strength to us. All
the Rotarian members were present at the occasion.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP, 11TH JULY, 2012




4) Donate Blood, Save Life:

The nationwide blood donation slogan „Raqt Daan Ek Jeevan Daan‟ aims to
motivate citizens to contribute to the community cause in order to provide safe
and adequate blood supply in various parts of India. Donating blood for a person
who is really in need is a very good work. A life saving project of Blood Donation
was organized by our club on 11th July 2012. President Rotarian Mr. Sunil Garg
was the first donor followed by 50 other donors in the presence of honorable
SMO. Further fruits and milk was given to the donors.
HELPING HAND TOWARDS POOR WIDOW LADY FOR
                 MARRIAGE OF HER DAUGHTER, 12TH JULY, 2012.




5) On 12th July 2012 our club helped a poor widow lady for the marriage of her
daughter named “Sanam” resident of Navi Abadi, Shukurpura, Batala in cash and
kind Rs.50,000/- was spent for her cause. She was provided with household
accessories. On the occasion Mr. Sunil Garg (President, Rotary club, Batala),
Mr. Parmjit Singh Gill (Secretary, Rotary club, Batala), Mr. Anjan Bansal (Financial
Secretary, Rotary club, Batala) and other Rotarians were also present.
HEART OPERATION OF A CHILD, 18TH JULY, 2012




6) On 18th July 2012, A child name “Deepak” son of Sh. Ram Kumar, Mohalla
Doula Nangal was having hole in his heart from birth, financial help of
Rs.15,000/- was given to the father of the child who was recommended for
heart operation under our regular project of “Gift of Life”.
EDUCATION PROVIDED TO THE NEEDY GIRL, 26TH JULY, 2012




7) The club has adopted the college education of a very poor brilliant girl. The
student has the capacity to get selected in civil services. The club has paid the
college fees of the student worth Rs. 27,000/-, Ist semester, in the field of
Computer Engineering at Beant Engineering College. Further we are always ready
to perform our duty for human kind and help the needy with our services. We must
respect the female child equally as the male child. Nowdays girls are performing
much better than boys in all the fields. Girls have full freedom to choose their
path. More opportunities are provided to the girls in all the departments by the
government as well as private sectors.
FRIENDSHIP DAY, 5th AUGUST 2012




8)Ist week of August is the mark of Friendship, our club celebrated the same .
Human beings are social creatures and have always valued the importance of
friends in their lives. There is not much literature on Friendship Day history as we
celebrate today. However, there are numerous folktales and several instance in
mythological legends that shows that friends and friendship have been valued since
the beginning of civilized world. As an intrinsically social creature, men love to
make friends to further this process of socialization.

To celebrate this noble feeling it was deemed fit to have a day dedicated to friends
and friendship. This beautiful idea of celebrating Friendship Day was joyfully
accepted by several other countries across the world. And today, many countries
including India, celebrate the first Sunday of August as Friendship Day every year.
Lot many other social and cultural organization too celebrate the occasion and
mark Friendship Day by hosting programs and get together. In the famous Hindu
epic „Mahabharata‟, Lord Krishna demonstrates the many colors of friendship -
affection, brotherhood, protection, guidance and even teasing. Friendship is all
about these and much more.
TREE PLANTATION 13TH AUGUST, 2012




9) Under the Green Batala campaign, tree plantation program was successfully
organized on 13th August 2012. Around 250 tree saplings were planted along with
some tree guards in Industrial Training Institute, Batala.
The main objective of the programme was to increase public awareness and
education on the importance of tree planting and conservation of natural forest
resources for environmental protection. The future of our planet is in our
children‟s hand. In this project the students were involved who took pledge to
take care of the plants till the saplings are mature enough to sustain. The purpose
of tree plantation is save the endangered environment and to beautify our life.

INDEPENDENCE DAY, 15TH AUGUST, 2012




10) Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a national holiday in
India commemorating the nation's independence from British rule on 15 August
1947. The tricolour flag, of India consists of saffron, white and green; with
the Ashok Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel, in navy blue at its centre. “Bhagwa or the
saffron color denotes renunciation of disinterestedness. The white in the center is
light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to
soil, our relation to the plant life here on which all other life depends. The
Ashoka Wheel in the center of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth
or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principles of those who
work under this flag. It was adopted in its present form during a meeting of
the Constituent Assembly held on 22 July 1947, when it became the official flag of
the Dominion of India. Our Club celebrated “Independence Day” along with our
partners in service “Inner Wheel Club”. The tricolor was hoisted at Rotary
Bhavan.
Students of Des Raj DAV Public and F.C.Verma Adarsh Vidya Mandir gave a colorful
performance of cultural program with patriotic songs and stage shows. Performing
students and their teachers were given cash appreciation awards worth Rs 2000/-
and gifts were also given.
INSTALLATION OF NEW TEAM, 31ST AUGUST, 2012




11) The ceremonial function of Installation of the new team was held on 31st
August at Harkual resorts, DGN Rotarian Sh. Gurjeet Sekhon (2014-2015) was
the installing officer. Four new members were installed. Sh. Ashwani Sekhri,
M.L.A, Batala was the chief guest of the evening and P.D.G. Rotarian Sh.
Raman Aggarwal was the guest of honor. The new team was administered the
oath by the installing officer.
On the same evening tricycle and a wheel chair was given to two physically
challenged poor people.
TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION, 12th SEPTEMBER, 2012




12) In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers Day as a mark of tribute to
the contribution made by teachers to the society. 5th September is the birthday of
a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of
education and was the well known scholar, President of India and above all a
Teacher. When Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan became the President of India in
1962, he was approached by some of his students and friends and requested him
to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his birthday. In reply, Dr. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan said, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be
my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as teachers day. The request
showed Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan‟s love for the teaching profession In our
regular meeting held every week at Rotary Bhavan, teacher day was celebrated on
12th September 2012. Shri Vinod Kumar, Sardar Dalbir Singh were honored on this
occasion. Vocational award was given to renowned social worker Master Kuldeep
Sharma for his selfless service to the society especially the “Old Age Home”.
EYE CAMP ON 23RD SEPTEMBER 2012




13) An eye camp was organized at Rotary Bhavan on 23rd September. Dr. Harlincon
Singh and his team from Vasan Eye Care centre, Amritsar consented to do the
service and also gave guidelines for eye care. On this occasion eyes of all the
Rotarian families was also examined. Eyes play a very important in our life and are
one of the most valuable gifts provided by the God.
GUEST SPEAKER SH. YASHAL MITTAL 26TH SEPTEMBER, 2012




14) Guest Speaker in this month was Sh. Yashal Mittal, a follower of Mahatma
Gandhi and a disciple of Swmai Vinobha Bhava from Prasthan
Ashram, Pathankot. He delivered a talk on his experiences and policy bhoo-dan
and association with gandhiji on 26th September. He was given a cash
contribution of Rs. 21,00/- to Prasthan Ashram. It was really a great opportunity
for all of us to spend time with Sh. Yashal Mittal as he provided with moral
values. It was     a different and a great experience for all of us.
OPERATION OF NEEDY ON 3RD OCTOBER, 2012




15) The club incurred all the expenses amounting to Rs. 15,000/- to Shr. Darshan
Lal for his leg operation at Civil Hospital, Batala. It was a contributory help by all
the members of the club. Operation was done on 3rd October, 2012.

PLASTIC SURGERY OF A RICKSHAW PULLER, 10TH OCTOBER 2012

16) The club gave Rs.35,000/- to Mr. Sukhdev Singh, a rickshaw puller for plastic
surgery of his leg at Guru Nanak Hospital, Amritsar on 10th October 2012, so that
he could earn his livelihood.
MEGA HEART CHECK-UP MEDICAL CAMP,14TH OCTOBER 2012




17) On 14th October 2012, the club organized a mega medical camp inaugurated by
Sh. Tulsi Ram, S.S.P, Batala. Dr. Harinder Singh Bedi with his medical team of 30
members from C.M.C Hospital, Ludhiana came for the heart care. A welcome dinner,
breakfast and lunch was organized by the club. More than 400 patients took the
benefit. Free ECG, blood tests and medicines were given to the needy.
CHESS COMPETITION, 23RD OCTOBER 2012




18) A chess competition was held in Government High School (Girls) in camp area
of Batala. 9 schools participated in it. Our club gave a cash appreciation award of
Rs. 21,00/- for winner student.
EXTEND A HELPING HAND MAKE A DIFFERENCE




19) At our regular meeting, a poor lady Mata Bhavi Kaur from Fatehgarh
Churian approached our club for financial help. She was given Rs. 21,00/-
for her son who was discharged from hospital.

20) A tricycle was given to the needy on dated 03RD November, 2012 in the
presence of the Rotarians
ECO-FRIENDLY EVENT, 09th NOVEMBER, 2012




21) Globalization is the biggest threat to the earth these days and is also
affecting the earth rapidly. So it is important for all of us to create awareness
of it amongst all. We must try to make use of eco-friendly things in our life and
should try to avoid the things which imbalances our eco-system for example we
must try to make use of vehicle which runs on battery or CNG system as it very
helpful in reducing pollution. Our club also participated in Marathon based on
eco-friendly purposes organized by our partners in service Inner wheel club on
9thNovember, 2012. Many schools were invited to inculcate the importance of
ecology in the students.
VISIT OF SARDAR TIM UPPAL (MINISTER FOR DEMOCRATIC REFORM, CANADA), 11TH
                              NOVEMBER 2012




 24)We had a visiting Minister from Canada Sardar Tim Uppal (Minister for
 Democratic Reform). Sr. Tim Uppal, PC, MP (born November 14, 1974) is
 a Canadian politician, who was elected as a Member of arliament for Edmonton
 - Sherwood Park in the 2008 federal election. He represents the Conservative
 Party of Canada, and currently serves as the Minister for     Democratic
 Reform in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He was honored by our
 club at a dinner party organized by senior Rotarian Past President, Sh. B.S.Shah.
FIGHT AGAINST CHOLERA, 14TH – 15TH NOVEMBER, 2012




22) In the slum areas of Batala, Cholera spread like a fire. 2000 ORS powder
packets were distributed by the club in the effected areas. The club also organized
a talk with the students of 3 schools in these effected areas on hygiene         and
sanitation. Cholera is acute, secretory diarrhea caused by infection with Vibrio
cholera of the O1 or O139 serogroup. It is endemic in more than 50 countries and
also causes large epidemics.
Since 1817, seven cholera pandemics have spread to much of the world. The
seventh pandemic began in 1961 and affects 3–5 million people each year, killing
120000. Although mild cholera can be indistinguishable from other diarrheal
illnesses, the presentation of severe cholera is distinct, with pronounced diarrheal
purging. Management of patients with cholera involves aggressive fluid
replacement; effective therapy can decrease mortality from more than 50% to less
than 0·2%. Antibiotic treatment decreases volume and duration of diarrhea by 50%
and is recommended for patients with moderate to severe dehydration.
Prevention of cholera depends on access to safe water and sanitation.
TRICYCLE GIVEN TO THE HANDICAP 7TH DECEMBER, 2012




23) An event was organized by our club on dated 7th December, 2012 at Rotary
Bhavan, Batala. The event was started by devoting prayers to the God. On the
occasion a tricycle was given to the old age handicapped person name Sh. Pyara
Singh S/o Sh. Balwant Singh resident of Gounspoora, Batala in the presence of the
Rotarians.
THE MARTYRS OF 1971 WAR, 06TH DECEMBER, 2012




25) Our club rebuffed Batala, War Memorial, which commensorates the Martyrs
of 1971 war at Dera Baba Nanak. On 6th December 2012, a memorial ceremony
was held by the Senior Army and Civil Officers along with members of Rotary
Club, Batala. The battle of Dera Baba Nanak 1971 (War memorial) is
         maintained by Rotary Club, Batala.
SEMINAR ON CANCER, 12TH DECEMBER 2012




26) A seminar on cancer was organized by our club on 12.12.2012. Dr. Bharat.B
Aggarwal (PHD), a Ransom Horne, a professor at MD Anderson, Cancer
Research centre, Houston, U.S.A was the speaker who gave informative and
education guidelines for “Prevention is better than Cure”. Thereafter a
welcome dinner was also organized by our club.
DISTRIBUTION OF UNIFORMS, STATIONERY AND FRUITS
                        19TH DECEMBER, 2012.




27) On 19th December our club distributed winter school uniforms along
with notebooks, stationery and fruits to the underprivileged students of RP
Aggarwal, DAV School, Batala. In cash and kind Rs. 15,000/- was spend for
the cause.
DISTRIBUTION OF BLANKETS, 23rd DECEMBER 2012




28) In the cold winter wave , Rotary club Batala keeping with its
responsibilities of sharing with the underprivileged section of society
distributed 51 blankets to the people of Jhugi-Jhoppris of Batala
COLLEGE FEES PAID OF NEEDY STUDENT
                           26TH DECEMBER, 2012




29) As earlier on dated 26th July 2012 our club paid the fees for Ist semester of a
needy girl student of Beant Engineering College, trade Computer Engineering.
Keeping in our promise the club again paid the fees of Rs. 13,000/-for the IInd
semester of the student. The girl has performed well in her examination of Ist
semester and has obtained good scores in the subjects. A 50% rebate in fees was
also provided by the college keeping in mind the determination and performance
of the student.

To promote better friendship and fellowship amongst rotary families, our club
organized several club family dinner meeting. At last but not the least we will
continue to render our services to the humanity. All of us should remain united
and spread peace all over the world to make this world happier.

HELPING HAND TOWARDS POOR WIDOW LADY FOR MARRIAGE OF HER DAUGHTER, 12TH JULY, 2012. 5) On 12th July 2012 our club helped a poor widow lady for the marriage of her daughter named “Sanam” resident of Navi Abadi, Shukurpura, Batala in cash and kind Rs.50,000/- was spent for her cause. She was provided with household accessories. On the occasion Mr. Sunil Garg (President, Rotary club, Batala), Mr. Parmjit Singh Gill (Secretary, Rotary club, Batala), Mr. Anjan Bansal (Financial Secretary, Rotary club, Batala) and other Rotarians were also present.
  • 9. HEART OPERATION OF A CHILD, 18TH JULY, 2012 6) On 18th July 2012, A child name “Deepak” son of Sh. Ram Kumar, Mohalla Doula Nangal was having hole in his heart from birth, financial help of Rs.15,000/- was given to the father of the child who was recommended for heart operation under our regular project of “Gift of Life”.
  • 10. EDUCATION PROVIDED TO THE NEEDY GIRL, 26TH JULY, 2012 7) The club has adopted the college education of a very poor brilliant girl. The student has the capacity to get selected in civil services. The club has paid the college fees of the student worth Rs. 27,000/-, Ist semester, in the field of Computer Engineering at Beant Engineering College. Further we are always ready to perform our duty for human kind and help the needy with our services. We must respect the female child equally as the male child. Nowdays girls are performing much better than boys in all the fields. Girls have full freedom to choose their path. More opportunities are provided to the girls in all the departments by the government as well as private sectors.
  • 11. FRIENDSHIP DAY, 5th AUGUST 2012 8)Ist week of August is the mark of Friendship, our club celebrated the same . Human beings are social creatures and have always valued the importance of friends in their lives. There is not much literature on Friendship Day history as we celebrate today. However, there are numerous folktales and several instance in mythological legends that shows that friends and friendship have been valued since the beginning of civilized world. As an intrinsically social creature, men love to make friends to further this process of socialization. To celebrate this noble feeling it was deemed fit to have a day dedicated to friends and friendship. This beautiful idea of celebrating Friendship Day was joyfully accepted by several other countries across the world. And today, many countries including India, celebrate the first Sunday of August as Friendship Day every year. Lot many other social and cultural organization too celebrate the occasion and mark Friendship Day by hosting programs and get together. In the famous Hindu epic „Mahabharata‟, Lord Krishna demonstrates the many colors of friendship - affection, brotherhood, protection, guidance and even teasing. Friendship is all about these and much more.
  • 12. TREE PLANTATION 13TH AUGUST, 2012 9) Under the Green Batala campaign, tree plantation program was successfully organized on 13th August 2012. Around 250 tree saplings were planted along with some tree guards in Industrial Training Institute, Batala.
  • 13. The main objective of the programme was to increase public awareness and education on the importance of tree planting and conservation of natural forest resources for environmental protection. The future of our planet is in our children‟s hand. In this project the students were involved who took pledge to take care of the plants till the saplings are mature enough to sustain. The purpose of tree plantation is save the endangered environment and to beautify our life. Trees are valuable gifts of nature
  • 14. INDEPENDENCE DAY, 15TH AUGUST, 2012 10) Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a national holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. The tricolour flag, of India consists of saffron, white and green; with the Ashok Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel, in navy blue at its centre. “Bhagwa or the saffron color denotes renunciation of disinterestedness. The white in the center is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to soil, our relation to the plant life here on which all other life depends. The Ashoka Wheel in the center of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principles of those who work under this flag. It was adopted in its present form during a meeting of the Constituent Assembly held on 22 July 1947, when it became the official flag of the Dominion of India. Our Club celebrated “Independence Day” along with our partners in service “Inner Wheel Club”. The tricolor was hoisted at Rotary Bhavan.
  • 15. Students of Des Raj DAV Public and F.C.Verma Adarsh Vidya Mandir gave a colorful performance of cultural program with patriotic songs and stage shows. Performing students and their teachers were given cash appreciation awards worth Rs 2000/- and gifts were also given.
  • 16. INSTALLATION OF NEW TEAM, 31ST AUGUST, 2012 11) The ceremonial function of Installation of the new team was held on 31st August at Harkual resorts, DGN Rotarian Sh. Gurjeet Sekhon (2014-2015) was the installing officer. Four new members were installed. Sh. Ashwani Sekhri, M.L.A, Batala was the chief guest of the evening and P.D.G. Rotarian Sh. Raman Aggarwal was the guest of honor. The new team was administered the oath by the installing officer.
  • 17. On the same evening tricycle and a wheel chair was given to two physically challenged poor people.
  • 18. TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION, 12th SEPTEMBER, 2012 12) In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers Day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education and was the well known scholar, President of India and above all a Teacher. When Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962, he was approached by some of his students and friends and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his birthday. In reply, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan said, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as teachers day. The request showed Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan‟s love for the teaching profession In our regular meeting held every week at Rotary Bhavan, teacher day was celebrated on 12th September 2012. Shri Vinod Kumar, Sardar Dalbir Singh were honored on this occasion. Vocational award was given to renowned social worker Master Kuldeep Sharma for his selfless service to the society especially the “Old Age Home”.
  • 19. EYE CAMP ON 23RD SEPTEMBER 2012 13) An eye camp was organized at Rotary Bhavan on 23rd September. Dr. Harlincon Singh and his team from Vasan Eye Care centre, Amritsar consented to do the service and also gave guidelines for eye care. On this occasion eyes of all the Rotarian families was also examined. Eyes play a very important in our life and are one of the most valuable gifts provided by the God.
  • 20. GUEST SPEAKER SH. YASHAL MITTAL 26TH SEPTEMBER, 2012 14) Guest Speaker in this month was Sh. Yashal Mittal, a follower of Mahatma Gandhi and a disciple of Swmai Vinobha Bhava from Prasthan Ashram, Pathankot. He delivered a talk on his experiences and policy bhoo-dan and association with gandhiji on 26th September. He was given a cash contribution of Rs. 21,00/- to Prasthan Ashram. It was really a great opportunity for all of us to spend time with Sh. Yashal Mittal as he provided with moral values. It was a different and a great experience for all of us.
  • 21. OPERATION OF NEEDY ON 3RD OCTOBER, 2012 15) The club incurred all the expenses amounting to Rs. 15,000/- to Shr. Darshan Lal for his leg operation at Civil Hospital, Batala. It was a contributory help by all the members of the club. Operation was done on 3rd October, 2012. PLASTIC SURGERY OF A RICKSHAW PULLER, 10TH OCTOBER 2012 16) The club gave Rs.35,000/- to Mr. Sukhdev Singh, a rickshaw puller for plastic surgery of his leg at Guru Nanak Hospital, Amritsar on 10th October 2012, so that he could earn his livelihood.
  • 22. MEGA HEART CHECK-UP MEDICAL CAMP,14TH OCTOBER 2012 17) On 14th October 2012, the club organized a mega medical camp inaugurated by Sh. Tulsi Ram, S.S.P, Batala. Dr. Harinder Singh Bedi with his medical team of 30 members from C.M.C Hospital, Ludhiana came for the heart care. A welcome dinner, breakfast and lunch was organized by the club. More than 400 patients took the benefit. Free ECG, blood tests and medicines were given to the needy.
  • 23. CHESS COMPETITION, 23RD OCTOBER 2012 18) A chess competition was held in Government High School (Girls) in camp area of Batala. 9 schools participated in it. Our club gave a cash appreciation award of Rs. 21,00/- for winner student.
  • 24. EXTEND A HELPING HAND MAKE A DIFFERENCE 19) At our regular meeting, a poor lady Mata Bhavi Kaur from Fatehgarh Churian approached our club for financial help. She was given Rs. 21,00/- for her son who was discharged from hospital.

  • 26. ECO-FRIENDLY EVENT, 09th NOVEMBER, 2012 21) Globalization is the biggest threat to the earth these days and is also affecting the earth rapidly. So it is important for all of us to create awareness of it amongst all. We must try to make use of eco-friendly things in our life and should try to avoid the things which imbalances our eco-system for example we must try to make use of vehicle which runs on battery or CNG system as it very helpful in reducing pollution. Our club also participated in Marathon based on eco-friendly purposes organized by our partners in service Inner wheel club on 9thNovember, 2012. Many schools were invited to inculcate the importance of ecology in the students.
  • 27. VISIT OF SARDAR TIM UPPAL (MINISTER FOR DEMOCRATIC REFORM, CANADA), 11TH NOVEMBER 2012 24)We had a visiting Minister from Canada Sardar Tim Uppal (Minister for Democratic Reform). Sr. Tim Uppal, PC, MP (born November 14, 1974) is a Canadian politician, who was elected as a Member of arliament for Edmonton - Sherwood Park in the 2008 federal election. He represents the Conservative Party of Canada, and currently serves as the Minister for Democratic Reform in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He was honored by our club at a dinner party organized by senior Rotarian Past President, Sh. B.S.Shah.
  • 28. FIGHT AGAINST CHOLERA, 14TH – 15TH NOVEMBER, 2012 22) In the slum areas of Batala, Cholera spread like a fire. 2000 ORS powder packets were distributed by the club in the effected areas. The club also organized a talk with the students of 3 schools in these effected areas on hygiene and sanitation. Cholera is acute, secretory diarrhea caused by infection with Vibrio cholera of the O1 or O139 serogroup. It is endemic in more than 50 countries and also causes large epidemics. Since 1817, seven cholera pandemics have spread to much of the world. The seventh pandemic began in 1961 and affects 3–5 million people each year, killing 120000. Although mild cholera can be indistinguishable from other diarrheal illnesses, the presentation of severe cholera is distinct, with pronounced diarrheal purging. Management of patients with cholera involves aggressive fluid replacement; effective therapy can decrease mortality from more than 50% to less than 0·2%. Antibiotic treatment decreases volume and duration of diarrhea by 50% and is recommended for patients with moderate to severe dehydration. Prevention of cholera depends on access to safe water and sanitation.
  • 29. TRICYCLE GIVEN TO THE HANDICAP 7TH DECEMBER, 2012 23) An event was organized by our club on dated 7th December, 2012 at Rotary Bhavan, Batala. The event was started by devoting prayers to the God. On the occasion a tricycle was given to the old age handicapped person name Sh. Pyara Singh S/o Sh. Balwant Singh resident of Gounspoora, Batala in the presence of the Rotarians.
  • 30. THE MARTYRS OF 1971 WAR, 06TH DECEMBER, 2012 25) Our club rebuffed Batala, War Memorial, which commensorates the Martyrs of 1971 war at Dera Baba Nanak. On 6th December 2012, a memorial ceremony was held by the Senior Army and Civil Officers along with members of Rotary Club, Batala. The battle of Dera Baba Nanak 1971 (War memorial) is maintained by Rotary Club, Batala.
  • 31. SEMINAR ON CANCER, 12TH DECEMBER 2012 26) A seminar on cancer was organized by our club on 12.12.2012. Dr. Bharat.B Aggarwal (PHD), a Ransom Horne, a professor at MD Anderson, Cancer Research centre, Houston, U.S.A was the speaker who gave informative and education guidelines for “Prevention is better than Cure”. Thereafter a welcome dinner was also organized by our club.

DISTRIBUTION OF UNIFORMS, STATIONERY AND FRUITS 19TH DECEMBER, 2012. 27) On 19th December our club distributed winter school uniforms along with notebooks, stationery and fruits to the underprivileged students of RP Aggarwal, DAV School, Batala. In cash and kind Rs. 15,000/- was spend for the cause.
  • 33. DISTRIBUTION OF BLANKETS, 23rd DECEMBER 2012 28) In the cold winter wave , Rotary club Batala keeping with its responsibilities of sharing with the underprivileged section of society distributed 51 blankets to the people of Jhugi-Jhoppris of Batala
  • 34. COLLEGE FEES PAID OF NEEDY STUDENT 26TH DECEMBER, 2012 29) As earlier on dated 26th July 2012 our club paid the fees for Ist semester of a needy girl student of Beant Engineering College, trade Computer Engineering. Keeping in our promise the club again paid the fees of Rs. 13,000/-for the IInd semester of the student. The girl has performed well in her examination of Ist semester and has obtained good scores in the subjects. A 50% rebate in fees was also provided by the college keeping in mind the determination and performance of the student. To promote better friendship and fellowship amongst rotary families, our club organized several club family dinner meeting. At last but not the least we will continue to render our services to the humanity. All of us should remain united and spread peace all over the world to make this world happier.
