Problem Definition
People visiting new places often have trouble adopting to the
new place. Whether on a business trip or holiday vocational
trip, a new place is usually hard to adopt in terms of finding
locations, restaurants, guest rooms, movie theatres and shopping
centers. To find the required destination or services, one has to
spend long time and resources asking people or walking from
one corner of the town or city to another (Koutroumanis, 2011).
The Town-Guide Android application is to help people who are
new to a city or town find their way around the town. The
application will provide features like navigation, geolocation
and reviews for services and other requirements that will help
the visitor. The application will also reduce the time of finding
services like restaurants, shopping centers and movie theaters

among other service centers. Additionally, the app will help
select the best services through the reviews of people who has
used the restaurant, hotel or tourism center before.
Issues
In modern days, towns and cities have been crowded and
security is usually compromised. Moving from one place to
another in search of a particular destination can be risky and
wasteful of time and other resources. However, applications like
Google Maps exist to help find directions; Town-Guide
Application will integrate the geolocation feature with features
of locating services in town and reviews from the customers and
local residents. This will help visitors and tourists find the best
services in terms of quality of the places, price range, distance
from main centers and security of places. The application aims
to have a comprehensive feature for the visitors to help them
adopt quickly to the new city or town.
Objectives
Introduce a new android application for visitors at the end of
next month to help lower their travelling costs by 50% and
reduce the time for finding places and services to one minute.
The project also aims to help visitors find category of services
in a region by one click with details such as directions, ratings,
costs and security.
Requirements
· System Requirements: System availability is 24 hours a day, 7
days a week and 365 days a year (99.9% uptime).
· Reporting Requirements: Weekly traffic report should be auto-
generated and sent to the business owner of the application.
· Data requirements: interfacing the system with geolocation
data, and other regional databases in terms infrastructure,
security and services.
· Business requirements: after approval of the system’s database
requirements, there should be five weeks of implementation of
the project.
· Security requirements: need to secure the system through two

· The project implementation is limited to 60 days after gaining
approval from the project owner and local authorities.
· The funding of the project is limited and there is no
contingency
· Inconsistent availability of human resources due to high level
of skills and experience to implement various subsystems.
· The new application will include geolocation features, real-
time messaging, and interfacing with a data warehouse for
various cities across the country. The system will not provide
advertising features for businesses.

The College Recreation Center(gym) is looking to start new
activities that are not just exercise and sports related. These
activities can be for 1⁄2 day, 1 day, overnight, Friday/Saturday
overnight. The activities can also be for an hour or more but
those would require multiple meetings. The Recreation Centers
additional activities should be focused on the students. Please
provide a new product or service that you have thought of for
Recreation Center. Not a product that is already developed, this
is your idea so have fun with it. I don’t expect boring activities
think outside the box.
New products and services are developed to solve specific
problems. Provide a new product or service. Not an actual new
product but one that you come up with. The product or service
does not have to have a large market. Provide a couple of
references to help justify your idea.

System Proposal Template
When preparing a systems proposal, systems analysts should
arrange the following items in order:
Ten Main Section of your System Proposal
1. Cover Letter
List of people who did the study and summarize the objectives
of the study are provided in your cover letter. Also, prearranged
time and place for oral presentation of the system proposal can
be included. Keep your cover letter concise (one page
maximum) and friendly.
2. Title Page of project
Include the name of the project, the names of the systems
analysis team members, and the date the proposal is submitted.
3. Table of Contents

If the proposal is very short (less than ten pages), you can omit
the table of contents since it is unnecessary on such a short
document. The purpose of your table of contents is to indicate
the contents of your proposal.
4. Executive Summary (including recommendations)
Usually, the executive summary is 250 to 375 words and can
answer the questions such as who, what, when, where, why and
how of the proposal. It should also include recommendation of
the system analysts since some people will only have time to
read the summary.
5. Outline of system study with appropriate documentation
Provides information about all the methods used in the study,
and who or what was studied.
6. Detailed results of systems study
The details what the system analyst has found out about the
system through all of the methods described are included in this
section. It also presents problems with the system

The analyst will present two or three alternative solutions that

It is brief statement that mirrors the content of your executive
summary. It gives the objectives of the study and the

recommended solution. Also, it allows the analyst one more
chance to stress the project’s importance and feasibility along
with the value of the recommendations.
10. Appendices
It might include pertinent correspondence, a summary of phases
completed in the study, detailed graph for analyses purposes, or
even previously done systems studies.

Introduction
The Town-Guide Android app is intended to help users who are
majorly visitors in a city to find locations, services and other
products. The major objective of the application is to help
people adopt to new places. Though there are various
applications in the market with a near same purpose, the design
and inclusion of features will allow the Town-Guide app have
the desired breakthrough in the market. O understand the design
and user requirements, it is essential to gather data on the
available similar applications, their features and aspects that
their users find challenging.
Existing Applications
Google Maps is one of the popular applications that users know.
This application is however, limited in functionality when it
comes to helping users adopt to new location. Google Maps is
both an Android and a web application that provides users with
locations and directions of places based on a global positional
system. The application allows the users to find places, locate
buildings and view the available routes in a given region
(Koutroumanis, 2011). AroundMe android app is also another
application that allows users to locate gas stations, bars, guest
rooms, restaurants, hospitals and other regions that the users
may need. Similar to this app is Places Android app and Near
Me applications. These Near Me and AroundMe app help users
locate places around them and regions.

Helpful Features I haven’t Thought
AroundMe and Near Me apps include the features like finding
places and service centers and feature to locate the current
position of a user. This is a great feature to include in Town-
Guide application. Google Maps also has a feature to find
places that will be important in the new application. In addition,
Google Maps allows the users to find directions, estimate travel
time when walking, driving or flying hence making it easier to
determine the best mode of transport around the new area. I will
include this great feature in my application.
Unique Feature in Town-Guide App
The new android application will be unique through combining
variety of features across the current applications. However,
unique features will include real time chats with receptionists at
hotels and various destinations, comparison of prices price
range for services, integration with weather monitoring
subsystem, booking of taxicabs and mobile payment for advance
booking through the app (Koutroumanis, 2011).
I will change the design of Town-Guide application to include
some features from the Google Maps, AroundMe and Near Me
applications. This will help develop the application in a way
that users will find the app easier to use due to familiarity of
the design hence eliminating sharp learning curves.
