Position: Nutrition and Food Security Consultant and Cash program Focal Person
Major Responsibilities:
• Support food distribution and post distribution monitoring
• Follow-up WFP pipeline and update management on regular bases, alert and
propose action points whenever WFP faces pipeline break or missing food from the
food basket.
• Support livelihood intervention in relation to food security: Support sub-offices/field
offices and partners in the implementation of backyard and small scale vegetable
gardening
• Provide training to all UNHCR focal points in food basket monitoring and post food
monitoring techniques. Coordinate with WFP and ARRA that monitoring activities are
understood at all level
• Support the development /revisions of SOP for food distribution and follow-up on use
• Support the development of annual UNHCR-WFP joint plan of action (JPA)
• Closely work with WFP during piloting of cash/food voucher interventions and
provide periodic reports to management to avoid/address any risks arising from this
approach.
• Support the nutrition program during surveys, capacity building trainings and related
areas whenever needed.
• Work closely with WFP or represent UNHCR during nutritional acceptability study,
dietary diversity assessments and consumption scores, market assessments etc and
provide feedback.
• Serve as the UNHCR liaison with WFP in relation to food security and nutrition.

Major Responsibilities:
 Provide overall technical assistance to UNHCR and its health and nutrition project
implementing partner, the Association Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA) for ensuring the
implementation and accomplishment of the objectives of the Anemia and other
nutritional projects in Ali Addeh refugee camp.
 Closely work with UNHCR and AMDA filed staff under close supervision and
coordination of UNHCR Health and Nutrition Coordinator, Program Officer and UNHCR
Regional Nutrition Coordinator. To date
 Organize and facilitate Joint Assessment Mission (JAM) and represent UNHCR to work
with WFP and ONARS (Government refugee organization) to determine the 24 Months
food and nutritional needs of refugee community and hosting community in Ali Addeh
camp.
 Support UNHCR in planning and implementation of food security which includes income

generating schemes, hygiene and sanitation projects.
 Organize and conduct anaemia and nutrition survey to investigate the malnutrition and
anaemia situation in the camp

Major Responsibilities
 Ensuring that the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all
emergency and transitional (Food aid, Nutrition, Food security and Livelihood) progrms
are in accordance with CARE Ethiopia’s strategic objectives and directions.
 Coordinate the programmatic, financial and managerial and reporting requirements
associated with all Country Office (CO) Emergency Response Programs and non-
emergency transitional programs to ensure CARE is in compliance with donor and
Government of Ethiopia's requirements.
 Ongoing monitoring of any emergency responses, coordinating efforts with government
and non-government organizations, maintaining communication with CARE International
members and donors and supporting development of emergency response and transition
Program proposals as required.
 Supervise the performance of CARE Transitional programs after emergency period in
CARE operational areas and thus provide technical support, supervision and guidance to
Field Office's.
4. ADDITIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE AND CONTRIBUTION TO PUBLICATIONS, 1993 TO THE PRESENT
1. Represented UNHCR and Jointly with WFP and Government counterpart, led the cash pilot
program for refugees in Ethiopia, and actively involved from design, implementation and
monitoring of the cash and food combined assistance in four refugee camps reaching 54,000
refugees since 2013.
2. Coordinated and led the 2014 UNHCR, WFP and partners joint assessment mission in Ethiopia
and compiled final report for disseminations.
3. Conducted standardized and expanded nutrition surveys (SENS) in Ethiopia and Djibouti during
2014.
4. Organized and conducted the year 2010 (March) anaemia and nutrition survey in Aliadeh refugee
camp/Djibouti in collaboration with Centre for International Child Health and Development
University College –London.
5. Facilitated the year 2009 joint assessment mission (UNHCR, WFP, partner NGOs and
Government) in Djibouti, Aliadeh refugee camp from the outset of assessment plan, tool design,
and conducting the assessment to the final report write-up. October 2009.
6. Conducted Nutributter@
(Complementary food) acceptability study with Nutreset Company in
Djibouti, Ali Addeh refugee camp, targeting children between the ages of six to 24 months.
November 2009.
7. Developed/consulted voucher based emergency relief food aid response system for ZOA Refugee
CARE, Gambela program to support Internally Displaced People (IDPs), March, 2008.
8. Participated on the international conference of Ecology and Bio-diversity (Cohab initiative www.
Cohabnet.org) organized in Ireland/Galway and presented paper on “disaster assessment and
environment, experience in the horn of Africa, the case of Ethiopia “, February 24-26, 2008.

9. Facilitated Sphere awareness-raising in a workshop organized for 40 Government and NGO staff
members - a capacity-building exercise organized by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) in Awassa,
Ethiopia, from January 24 to the 27th, 2007,
10. Co-facilitator in the training of UNHCR and Partner Organizations in Frame-Rapid Environmental
Assessment and Community Environmental Action Planning in Ethiopia at the Bonga / Gambella
Refugee Camp for the Repatriation of Sudanese refugee, June 2006.

story on “Emergency seed distribution through voucher system in Ethiopia” organized by Action

organizations in the utilization of Sphere standards in humanitarian responses, Rapid

producing and pastoral areas of the Eastern and Southern parts of Ethiopia.
