This document discusses a study conducted in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) exploring the use of online search data to estimate migration flows, specifically analyzing search queries related to employment in Australia from 2008 to 2013. The findings suggest that certain online search queries could serve as proxy indicators for migration statistics, revealing insights about job opportunities and underemployment. Recommendations include further research in different contexts and collaboration with tech companies to enhance the utility of big data for migration analysis.
