Explain how human and natural activities affect the earth and its environment. Evaluate the effects of human and natural activity on the earth and its environment Unit 3 P6 □ M6□ D6 □ Assessment Evidence: Your research will help government ministers understand the importance of the factors involved in the earth and the environment This will come from completing the tasks but you may wish to include any extra information that you find. How you present your work is up to you, but you should discuss this with your teacher. Feeling the Heat Your Work Should Include….. 1) Environmental Issues Draw up a table of human activities that change the environment, and describe the effect of each one. Draw up a table of natural activities that change the environment and describe the effect of each one. (PASS) 2) The Atmosphere Describe the earth’s early atmosphere. Explain the (natural) processes by which this atmosphere changed to the pre-industrial one Explain how the atmosphere is now changing as a result of human activity (MERIT) 3) The Carbon Cycle Draw out a carbon cycle, and use it to explain what processes (both natural and artificial) either add CO2 to the atmosphere, or remove it (DISTINCTION) 4) What can be done? Discuss the effects of changing CO2 levels on the earth’s climate, and what might be done, either individually or as a society, to reduce CO2 emissions (DISTINCTION) Scenario: Scientists working for the environment agency are continually evaluating the affects of humans and how to reduce the impact. The environment agency advises government agencies. You have been asked to devise a training scheme for junior civil servants who will soon one day be involved in policy making. You have been asked to pay particular attention to the issues of global warming Key words: Mining, drilling, land, air, sea, oil, coal, natural gas, oil, metal ores, salt, nitrogen, oxygen, energy, health, safety, disposal, recycling, farming, nuclear, acid rain, biomass, ethanol, hydrogen, DDT, CFC, volcanoes, tectonic plates, atmosphere, greenhouse, effect, emissions
