After examining the options of title ideas for
my short film, which varied in both
significance of their meanings and their
length, I primarily decided to chose the title
Involuntary Servitude in which the main
character’s mental instability has mastered
to control him and leave him restrained,
helpless and enslaved.
However, since my aim with this project is to
reach a broader audience I have chosen a
short yet poignant title of Impact due to two
reasons.
Firstly, I have chosen it because the film’s
message revolves around a daily yet
unspoken topic of inner regret and unrest
which to a certain level of impact each
individual endures.
Secondly, in relation to the storyline, I have
coincided its meaning to demonstrate the
crash or impact of an airplane which
corresponds with also its impact it has made
on all the victims. Therefore, this bold yet
effective title encompasses all the theme
and symbolisms which represent this
project.
-
In order to emphasize the main character’s
gloominess I have decided to add certain images
such empty gazes, blank facial expressions and
long and tiresome trudging. Through these
inaudible snippets and representations of his
bleak and lifeless surroundings the character is
better introduced to the audience
I have decided to change the title of
the newspaper title to: PLANE
CRASH STILL INVESTIGATED, NO
ONETO BLAMEYET, since it
demonstrates that the event has
happened recently adding to its
grand influence upon the main
character particularly since his guilt
which he is aware of has not yet
been revealed, adding to the
emphasis of his emotional struggle
to confront his undoing officially.
By relating to specific instructions of trying to get in touch with the pilot on the
plane and indicating that all of the group of people have labels indicating that
they are victims demonstrates a notion of further clarification which has been
added in order to make the film more coherent.
-
In order to make the structure of
the storyline more coherent to the
reader(s) of the script, including
both cast and crew, I decided to
implement a brief description of
the construction of the groups
present amongst the crowd of
victims as a note in order to make
the crowd seem more realistic and
in order to mimic the stereotypical
mix of travelers including: a young
couple, a mother and son, a family
and a teacher with children on a
excursion. Moreover at the very
beginning of the page I will
introduce the overall filming basis
in order to help with the
comprehension of this scene: A
closer look of the victims is
captured. Snapshots of the victims
of various typical situations of
people on their way to the airport.
-
My intention for the
supporting character( bubble
character) is to represent a
vivid contrast to the main
character primarily visually
with an eccentric wardrobe
and later with a complete
opposing view embodied by a
tone of optimism
In order for the background
chatter to be dominate in
this part of the scene as the
focus is to be placed on the
suspenseful meeting
between the supporting and
main character, I have
decided to change the
background chatter into a
voiceover in order to reduce
its significance.
I wanted to point
out the meeting
with the two more
vividly and to add
to the suspense of
the meeting by
leaving the
identity of the
main character a
mystery to the
very end, as it is in
fact the same
person as the
bubble character
which is in fact his
subconscious.
Instead of the main character being amazed and astonished, I
have decided to lead the conversation between the two
characters in a more casual manner. This is because he is in fact
talking to himself as tries to unravel his misery. Due to this the
tone of the main character is rather more interrogative as he is
examining and questioning himself rather than being surprised.
