Section A: Geographical Inquiry
• Almost all candidates elected to attempt Question 2.
• Question 1 is not difficult. Please make an attempt to
revise sufficiently for CA2 to be able to attempt all the
different question types on the different topics.
• For Q2(b), the data shows concrete individual data, the
most suitable presentation is a bar graph.
• For Q2(c), candidates generally did not make use of the
evidence given in the data set to make their
recommendations. Other logical answers are accepted
but the data set evidence is the key source of the
information.
Section B: Geographical Skills
Question 3 : Tourism
• Some candidates failed to note the
comparison for Q3(a) is between America and
Asia ONLY.
• Certain candidates did give a definitive answer
to Q3(b). Candidates need to craft the factors
to support their stand. To score full marks,
there must be both sides of the argument fully
explored with sufficient development and a
final stand that corroborates with the stand
taken by the candidate.
Section B: Geographical Skills
Question 4 : Climate Studies
• 5(a) Several students did not describe
both the temperature as well as the
precipitation of the area studied.
• 5(b) Students who attempted this
question generally did not manage to
fully explore both sides of the argument.
Hence they did not score the full marks
allocated.
Section C: Structured Essay Questions
Question 5 : Plate Tectonics
• 5(a) Candidates are required to state the
location as well as the type of boundary at
those locations that led to the formation of
the fold mountains. This is not expressed.
• 5(b) Key aspects of the forces found at a
transform fault as well as the movement of
the plates must be listed to qualify for full
marks. Some candidates fail to name the
natural disaster experienced.
Section C: Structured Essay Questions
Question 5 : Plate Tectonics
• 5(d) Candidates are required to state and briefly
explain the two types of plate boundaries where
volcanoes can occur. Full explanation of only one
type will not qualify for full marks.
• 5(e) Candidates are expected to be able to fully
explain all factors listed, cover both sides of the
factors and use the weightage of the explanation to
illustrate and support the stand that was take at the
start of their answers.
