CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) is an educational approach that teaches non-language subjects through the medium of a foreign language. It has a dual focus on language and subject learning. A successful CLIL lesson combines elements of content, communication, cognition, and culture by using language to learn content while developing thinking and language skills. Barriers to implementing CLIL programs include the need for new collaboration between subject and language teachers, new pedagogical practices, lack of teacher training in CLIL, difficulties assessing language and content, and lack of resources.
