- 3. Lever • A lever is a stiff bar that moves about a fixed point • A lever is used to push, pull, or lift things
- 4. Screw • Is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder or cone • Common use is to hold objects together
- 5. Pulley • A pulley is a wheel that has a rope wrapped around it • Pulleys can be used to lift heavy objects by changing the direction or amount of force
- 6. Wheel and Axle • A wheel and axle consisted of a rod attached to a wheel • Makes it easier to move and turn things
- 7. Inclined Plane • Flat surface that is rasied so that one end is higher than the other • Helps move heavy objects up and down
- 8. Wedge • Wide at one end and pointed at the other to help split or separate to objects
- 9. Group Project • I will split the class up into 6 groups • Group 1: Lever • Group 2: Pulley • Group 3: Wheel and axle • Group 4: Inclined Plane • Group 5: Wedge • Group 6: Screw • Your group will get together today and begin research on your specific simple machine. I want you create a presentation that includes; a definition, how it makes work easier, and examples from home and school.

Next Step • You will begin work today and for homework (referencing these slides if needed) you will bring in or take pictures of examples of your machine around your home. • On Thursday, you will bring back these objects or pictures to show to your group.
