ORGANIZATION PROFILE
ABSTRACT
Nongovernmental organization (NGO) is a term that has become widely accepted for referring
to a legally constituted, non-business organization created by natural or legal persons with no
participation or representation of any government. Major sources of NGO funding include
membership dues, the sale of goods and services, grants from international institutions or
national governments, and private donations. Several EU-grants provide funds accessible to
NGO. Its purpose is to serve people.
Even though the term “non-governmental organization” implies independence from
governments, most NGOs depend heavily on governments for their funding. NGOs are
difficult to define and classify, and the term ‘NGO’ is not used consistently. As a result, there
are many different classifications in use. The most common use a framework that includes
orientation and level of operation. An NGO’s orientation refers to the type of activities it takes
on. These activities might include human rights, environmental, or development work.
An NGO’s level of operation indicates the scale at which an organization works, such as local,
international or national. Nongovernmental organizations are essential to humanitarian relief
in bringing years of experience in public health and preventive medicine programming to a
crisis zone. A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization
created by natural or legal persons that operates independently from any form of government.
The term originated from the United Nations (UN), and is normally used to refer to
organizations that are not a part of the government and are not conventional for profit business.
In the cases in which NGOs are funded totally or partially by governments, the NGO
maintains its non-governmental status by excluding government representatives from
membership in the organization. The term is usually applied only to organizations that pursue
wider social aims that have political aspects, but are not openly political organizations such as
political parties.
8
INTRODUCTION:
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is an organization that generally is formed
independent from Government. They are typically non-profit entities, and many of them are
active in humanitarianism or the social sciences, they can also include clubs and associations
that provide services to their members and others.
The term as it is used today was first introduced in Article 71 of the newly formed United
Nations Charter in 1945. While there is no fix and formal definition for what NGOs are, they
are generally defined as non-profit entities that are independent of government influence
although they may receive government funding. According to the UN Department of Global
Communications, an NGO is "a not-for profit, voluntary citizen's group that is organized on a
local, national or international level to address issues in support of the public good." The
term NGO is used inconsistently, and is sometimes used synonymously with civil
society organization (CSO), which is any association founded by citizens. In some countries,
NGOs are known as non-profit organizations, and political parties and trade unions are
sometimes considered NGOs as well.
Today we celebrate the World NGO Day, we celebrate the key civil society's contribution to
public space and their unique ability to give voice to those who would have went otherwise
unheard. World NGO Day is observed annually on 27th February.
A non-governmental organization, or NGO, is an organization established by a group of
individuals that wishes to pursue goals and aspirations that relate to the public, social, or
political good of a nation or the world.
NGOs focus on a wide range of issues and areas. These might include women's rights, the
health of the environment and planet, healthcare, political advocacy, labour unions, religious
faith, care of the elderly, and youth empowerment.
MEANING:
A non-government organization is an association which is based on the common interests of
its members, individuals, or institution has no governmental status or function, and is not
created by a government, nor is its agenda set or implemented by a government. A non-
governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization created by natural or
legal persons that operates independently from any form of government. The term originated
9
from the United Nations (UN), and is normally used to refer to organizations that are not a part
of the government and are not conventional for profit business.
DEFINITION:
According to the World Bank, NGOs are “value-bases organizations which depend, in whole
or in part, on charitable donations and voluntary service,” and in which “principles of altruism
and voluntarism remain key defines not affiliated with government”.
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are generally considered to be
“non-state, non-profit oriented groups who pursue purposes of public interest”, excluding the
private sector.
NEED FOR NGOs IN INDIA:
The need for NGOs continues to increase in India. One of the reasons for this is that there are
still millions of people in this country are falling to get even their basic needs met. They do not
have proper place to stay or have other resources to run their day to day life with dignity. There
are many governments organized programs but not all of them reach the people as they should
so there is an increasing need for NGOs in India.
To bridge this gap there are many Indian NGO movements that work to improve the standard
of people’s life. Every NGO in India has their own vision and goal. There are many social
welfare programs run by these NGOs. One of the best goals NGOs in India can have for
themselves is to provide free education in India. Sociologists analysing the Indian Society
found that one of the main reasons for poverty in India is the poor literacy rate in some of the
Indian societies. So to alleviate people from their poverty it is essential to provide quality
education to the poor.
One of the main areas that has been receiving the attention of many of the Indian NGO
movements is the slums. Poverty is strikingly visible in many parts of India. Providing slum
education is taken as one of the main missions of many NGOs in India. One such NGO is Stree
Shakti Vikas Charitable Trust. This NGO is offering quality education to underprivileged
children in Nagpur.
People that are below poverty line do not have enough money or drive to think about the other
things of life such as education of their children etc. NGO movements try to make people
understand the importance of education in their lives. They do not stop with that; they also
offer highly effective educational programs.
10
Moreover, it is not enough that only the NGOs work towards the upliftment of people it is very
important that every individual starts working on the improvement of the literacy rate of the
country. They can help the NGOs to do their job better by providing them with the required
financial support. As they already have a set up contributing to their schemes will help us pool
the resources reaching the needy in a more systematic and effective way.
FUNCTIONS:
Here are some functions of non-government organizations:
Most larger nongovernment agencies are involved in aid and relief. Other nongovernment
organizations have a major role in developing human resources among minorities by
 Delivering services at the local level
 Helping community organization
 Promoting education, and
 Working for intangible benefits such as cultural self-esteem.
ROLE OF NGOs IN INDIA
NGOs can and should play the “game changer” to poor development through leadership on
participatory research, community empowerment and search for development alternatives.
In a democratic society, it is the state that has ultimate responsibility for ushering development
to its citizens. In India, through the progressive interpretation of the Constitution and its laws
and policies, the scope of development has been significantly broadened to include not just
economic progress for citizens but also promotion of social justice, gender equality, improved
quality of life. To achieve this holistic vision of development, the state requires the constructive
and collaborative engagement of the civil society in its various developmental activities and
programs. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as the operational arm of the civil society
therefore have an important role in development process.

these organizations are established.

preventing cruelty to animals. NGOs can be funded by donations and grants. Some of

project, few subject teachers had some issue regarding completion of syllabus, which
was resolved by distributing her syllabus between other teachers.

CONCLUSION
It was an absolute worthwhile experience working at Stree Shakti Vikas Charitable Trust
Nagpur. The management has created a space for me that allowed me with ample opportunities
to learn and know myself as part of the NGO. This experience brought out my strength and
also the areas I needed to improvise. It has added more confidence to my professional
approach, built strong positive attitude and taught me how to be a Team player as an overall.
The primary objective of an internship is to gather real life working experience and apply our
bookish knowledge we learnt in classroom to put it out to practice in the business world. I am
grateful to the entire team of Human Resource Department of the NGO for their unprecedented
support to make my working experience truly rewarding. Especially working in this
department made me realise my competencies and level of understanding regarding the
Human Resources. On completion of this internship period I came to know about the
importance of Human Resources and the role of HR Manager.
As an intern though I had a limited area to work as it was for the first time that such internship
took place for them and even for me. I still manage to grab plentiful experiences . I made the
best of my opportunity I was given and made the utmost use of my abilities and knowledge to
fulfil all my responsibilities. I could implement my academic skills in to practice and my
efforts were highly acknowledged by my superior and mentor. There was however gap
between our theoretical knowledge and real life practice yet the mentors were quite open at
helping me at every stage I needed, which was extremely motivating.
Hence I can sum up by saying that my Internship experience was a mile stone to my academic
and professional experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges that came along every single
day. I could also bring some minor improvisations during my internship. These lessons that I
have learned will be valuable for my future endeavours as well.

  • 7. 7 ORGANIZATION PROFILE ABSTRACT Nongovernmental organization (NGO) is a term that has become widely accepted for referring to a legally constituted, non-business organization created by natural or legal persons with no participation or representation of any government. Major sources of NGO funding include membership dues, the sale of goods and services, grants from international institutions or national governments, and private donations. Several EU-grants provide funds accessible to NGO. Its purpose is to serve people. Even though the term “non-governmental organization” implies independence from governments, most NGOs depend heavily on governments for their funding. NGOs are difficult to define and classify, and the term ‘NGO’ is not used consistently. As a result, there are many different classifications in use. The most common use a framework that includes orientation and level of operation. An NGO’s orientation refers to the type of activities it takes on. These activities might include human rights, environmental, or development work. An NGO’s level of operation indicates the scale at which an organization works, such as local, international or national. Nongovernmental organizations are essential to humanitarian relief in bringing years of experience in public health and preventive medicine programming to a crisis zone. A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization created by natural or legal persons that operates independently from any form of government. The term originated from the United Nations (UN), and is normally used to refer to organizations that are not a part of the government and are not conventional for profit business. In the cases in which NGOs are funded totally or partially by governments, the NGO maintains its non-governmental status by excluding government representatives from membership in the organization. The term is usually applied only to organizations that pursue wider social aims that have political aspects, but are not openly political organizations such as political parties.
  • 8. 8 INTRODUCTION: A non-governmental organization (NGO) is an organization that generally is formed independent from Government. They are typically non-profit entities, and many of them are active in humanitarianism or the social sciences, they can also include clubs and associations that provide services to their members and others. The term as it is used today was first introduced in Article 71 of the newly formed United Nations Charter in 1945. While there is no fix and formal definition for what NGOs are, they are generally defined as non-profit entities that are independent of government influence although they may receive government funding. According to the UN Department of Global Communications, an NGO is "a not-for profit, voluntary citizen's group that is organized on a local, national or international level to address issues in support of the public good." The term NGO is used inconsistently, and is sometimes used synonymously with civil society organization (CSO), which is any association founded by citizens. In some countries, NGOs are known as non-profit organizations, and political parties and trade unions are sometimes considered NGOs as well. Today we celebrate the World NGO Day, we celebrate the key civil society's contribution to public space and their unique ability to give voice to those who would have went otherwise unheard. World NGO Day is observed annually on 27th February. A non-governmental organization, or NGO, is an organization established by a group of individuals that wishes to pursue goals and aspirations that relate to the public, social, or political good of a nation or the world. NGOs focus on a wide range of issues and areas. These might include women's rights, the health of the environment and planet, healthcare, political advocacy, labour unions, religious faith, care of the elderly, and youth empowerment. MEANING: A non-government organization is an association which is based on the common interests of its members, individuals, or institution has no governmental status or function, and is not created by a government, nor is its agenda set or implemented by a government. A non- governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization created by natural or legal persons that operates independently from any form of government. The term originated
  • 9. 9 from the United Nations (UN), and is normally used to refer to organizations that are not a part of the government and are not conventional for profit business. DEFINITION: According to the World Bank, NGOs are “value-bases organizations which depend, in whole or in part, on charitable donations and voluntary service,” and in which “principles of altruism and voluntarism remain key defines not affiliated with government”. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are generally considered to be “non-state, non-profit oriented groups who pursue purposes of public interest”, excluding the private sector. NEED FOR NGOs IN INDIA: The need for NGOs continues to increase in India. One of the reasons for this is that there are still millions of people in this country are falling to get even their basic needs met. They do not have proper place to stay or have other resources to run their day to day life with dignity. There are many governments organized programs but not all of them reach the people as they should so there is an increasing need for NGOs in India. To bridge this gap there are many Indian NGO movements that work to improve the standard of people’s life. Every NGO in India has their own vision and goal. There are many social welfare programs run by these NGOs. One of the best goals NGOs in India can have for themselves is to provide free education in India. Sociologists analysing the Indian Society found that one of the main reasons for poverty in India is the poor literacy rate in some of the Indian societies. So to alleviate people from their poverty it is essential to provide quality education to the poor. One of the main areas that has been receiving the attention of many of the Indian NGO movements is the slums. Poverty is strikingly visible in many parts of India. Providing slum education is taken as one of the main missions of many NGOs in India. One such NGO is Stree Shakti Vikas Charitable Trust. This NGO is offering quality education to underprivileged children in Nagpur. People that are below poverty line do not have enough money or drive to think about the other things of life such as education of their children etc. NGO movements try to make people understand the importance of education in their lives. They do not stop with that; they also offer highly effective educational programs.
  • 10. 10 Moreover, it is not enough that only the NGOs work towards the upliftment of people it is very important that every individual starts working on the improvement of the literacy rate of the country. They can help the NGOs to do their job better by providing them with the required financial support. As they already have a set up contributing to their schemes will help us pool the resources reaching the needy in a more systematic and effective way. FUNCTIONS: Here are some functions of non-government organizations: Most larger nongovernment agencies are involved in aid and relief. Other nongovernment organizations have a major role in developing human resources among minorities by  Delivering services at the local level  Helping community organization  Promoting education, and  Working for intangible benefits such as cultural self-esteem. ROLE OF NGOs IN INDIA NGOs can and should play the “game changer” to poor development through leadership on participatory research, community empowerment and search for development alternatives. In a democratic society, it is the state that has ultimate responsibility for ushering development to its citizens. In India, through the progressive interpretation of the Constitution and its laws and policies, the scope of development has been significantly broadened to include not just economic progress for citizens but also promotion of social justice, gender equality, improved quality of life. To achieve this holistic vision of development, the state requires the constructive and collaborative engagement of the civil society in its various developmental activities and programs. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as the operational arm of the civil society therefore have an important role in development process.

This will create a good environment for upcoming generations. To achieve public and social welfare goals these organizations are established. Some of the functions of NGO are: Human rights and child rights. • 24. 24 CONCLUSION It was an absolute worthwhile experience working at Stree Shakti Vikas Charitable Trust Nagpur. The management has created a space for me that allowed me with ample opportunities to learn and know myself as part of the NGO. This experience brought out my strength and also the areas I needed to improvise. It has added more confidence to my professional approach, built strong positive attitude and taught me how to be a Team player as an overall. The primary objective of an internship is to gather real life working experience and apply our bookish knowledge we learnt in classroom to put it out to practice in the business world. I am grateful to the entire team of Human Resource Department of the NGO for their unprecedented support to make my working experience truly rewarding. Especially working in this department made me realise my competencies and level of understanding regarding the Human Resources. On completion of this internship period I came to know about the importance of Human Resources and the role of HR Manager. As an intern though I had a limited area to work as it was for the first time that such internship took place for them and even for me. I still manage to grab plentiful experiences . I made the best of my opportunity I was given and made the utmost use of my abilities and knowledge to fulfil all my responsibilities. I could implement my academic skills in to practice and my efforts were highly acknowledged by my superior and mentor. There was however gap between our theoretical knowledge and real life practice yet the mentors were quite open at helping me at every stage I needed, which was extremely motivating. Hence I can sum up by saying that my Internship experience was a mile stone to my academic and professional experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges that came along every single day. I could also bring some minor improvisations during my internship. These lessons that I have learned will be valuable for my future endeavours as well.
