The skeleton supports the body and allows for movement. It is made up of many bones including the skull, which protects the brain, the backbone or spine, ribs that protect the vital organs like a coat of armor, and bones in the arms, legs, hands and feet. Bones grow as babies develop but stop growing when reaching adulthood. The skeleton's important jobs are to support the body and allow for movement through attachment of bones like the legs to the pelvis.
