TOPIC:-SMART GRID
NAME:-NITESH ARUN KAMBLI
INTRODUCTION:-
• A smart grid is an electrical grid which includes a variety of
operational and energy measures including smart meters, smart
appliances, renewable energy resources, and energy efficient
resources.
• Electronic power conditioning and control of the production and
distribution of electricity are important aspects of the smart grid.
• Roll-out of smart grid technology also implies a fundamental re-
engineering of the electricity services industry, although typical usage
of the term is focused on the technical infrastructure.
ELECTRICITY FORCASTING IN INDIA:-
• Electricity required:- 1167731Gwh.
• Electricity Generated:- 1068943Gwh.
• Electricity Deficit:-98788Gwh.
WHAT IS SMART GRID?
• The digital technology that allows for two-way communication
between the utility and its customers, and the sensing along the
transmission lines is what makes the grid smart.
• Like the Internet, the Smart Grid will consist of controls,
computers, automation, and new technologies and equipment
working together, but in this case, these technologies will work
with the electrical grid to respond digitally to our quickly
changing electric demand.
SMART GRID FUNTION:-
COMPONENT FO THE SMART GRID:-
INTELIGENT APPLIANCE:-
• Intelligent Appliance is a Designer and Manufacturer specializing
in Industrial Data Acquisition and Control, Communication, Peer to
Peer, Digital and Analog I/O modules, USB Relay board Controllers,
RS-232 and Motion Control building blocks.
• Products:-
1. Automatic Data Acquisition Systems.
2. Green Energy and Solar Panel Controlling.
3. Smart Home Systems, Multi Room and Home Control Systems so
on.
SMART POWER METER:-
• Smart meters are the new
generation of gas and electricity
meters being installed by energy
suppliers in every home in Britain.
• Smart meters come with an in-
home display screen that show you
exactly how much energy you are
using in pounds and pence, in near
real time and will bring an end to
estimated bills.
SMART SUBSTATION:-
• The number of distributed energy resources and new
appliances with power electronics in the distribution
grid rapidly grows. This leads to power quality
problems and power flow fluctuations.
• To manage these fluctuations while maintaining
power quality and reliability, a Smart MV/LV-station
has been designed by a Dutch consortium.
• A prototype of this station has been built and is being
tested. Tests will take place both in the Flex Power
Grid Lab in Arnhem. First simulation results show a
significant reduction of harmonic voltages and
resonances, as well as a peak load reduction of 30%.
SMART DISTUBUTION:-
• Basic objectives are improved reliability, promote high penetration of
renewable sources, dynamic islanding, and improved generation efficiencies
through the use of waste heat.
• The best way to manage such a system is to break the distribution system
down into small clusters or microgrids, with distributed optimizing controls
coordinating multi microgrids.
• Most emerging technologies such as micro turbines, photovoltaic systems,
fuel cells and ac storage have an inverter to interface with the electrical
distribution system.
• These emerging technologies have lower emissions and the potential to
have lower cost negating traditional economies of scale.
SMART GENERATION:-
• Smart Power Generation plants can use any gaseous and liquid fuels,
including biofuels.
• They can even switch from one fuel to another without stopping.
1. Gain fuel security Use.
2. The cheapest and the cleanest fuels available.
ADVANTAGE:-
• Improved distribution system efficiency.
• Reduced distribution line losses .
• Improved voltage profile along feeder.
• Improved system stability and capacity.
• Reduced energy demand .
• Reduction of environmentally harmful emissions.
APPLICATION:-
• They improve the adeptness of transmission lines.
• Quick recovery after any sudden breakage/disturbance in lines and
feeders.
• Cost Reduction.
• Reduction of peak demand.
• They possess the ability to be integrated with renewable energy
sources on a large level which leads to sharing of load and
reduction of load on large scale.
The Future of Smart Grid
• The Department of Energy
proposed an investment of
$3.5 billion from the year 2016
to 2026 to promote innovation
in the smart grid technology
industry.
• Research will focus primarily
on machine learning, plug and
play technology, self-healing
grid and total automation of
the grid.
SMART GRID:-
CONCLUSION
• Smart Grid is a concept designed to provide electricity in more
efficient way by better allocating electricity according to consumer’s
wants.
• It integrated multiple energy sources and avoid over-generation as
well. In foreign countries, namely the UK and USA, started to
implement as they see it as a solution of energy and environment
pressure in their own country.
• By analyzing arguments for and against Smart Grid deployment, we
concluded that Smart Grid is worth doing because of the benefits of
energy saving, positive environmental impact and long-term economic
outcome.
