Setting up the total station involves choosing target locations and mounting the total station and prisms onto tripods at those locations. The total station must then be leveled using foot screws to align the bullseye bubble at the center. Once mounted and leveled, the total station is positioned to face the prism and the cross hairs and image are focused using the focus rings. Angles are then measured by setting the current position to 0 degrees when facing the desired prism, and checked by flipping the total station to 180 degrees and realigning with the same prism.
