Lesson 1 Mind Map
Successful completion of this subject  should enable you to research and provide information needed to support the development of an operation / project/ production and to identify sources of  material for inclusion. Specifically,  you should be able to: 1. Identify the purpose of research; 2. Explain the advantages and  disadvantages of different data gathering techniques; 3. Identify and access sources of information; 4. List and explain elements of effective information presentation.
Subject Assessment The assessment for this unit/ module is  ungraded and recorded as  PASS (UNGRADED) or FAIL.  No marks are recorded centrally.  All assessment events used to determine your  result will be locally set and locally marked. In addition to an overall pass in this module  (based on attendance, punctuality,  behaviour and class projects)  you must pass the following assessment event. Event Name :RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT For a specified topic or topics, research using various research techniques and produce a major research assignment or a series of minor research assignments.
Research is the search for and  retrieval of information or  knowledge for a specific purpose.  The information may need to be: a) discovered e.g. Google or  b) created e.g. usability studies  DEFINITION
Business Research Forms of business research include: 1. MARKET RESEARCH 2. PRODUCT/SERVICE  RESEARCH 3. ADVERTISING RESEARCH
1. Market research  is broader in scope and examines all aspects of a business environment. It asks questions about competitors, market structure, government regulations, economic trends, technological advances, and numerous other factors that make up the business environment. Sometimes the term refers more particularly to the financial analysis of companies, industries, or sectors. In this case, financial analysts usually carry out the research and provide the results to investment advisors and potential investors. Business Research Forms of business research include:
