Summary response assignment

This document provides instructions for an assignment to attend a keynote address by Sy Montgomery on October 3rd. Students are asked to take notes during the talk and then write a one-page, double-spaced summary and response. For the summary, students should summarize Montgomery's main point and supporting points in a substantial paragraph. For the response, students should write a substantial paragraph about their thoughts, feelings, and reactions to Montgomery's talk in terms of what was new or surprising, what they agreed or disagreed with, and anything they wished had been discussed. Write up a one-‐paged, typed, double-‐spaced summary/response. Summary – in a substantial paragraph, summarize Sy Montgomery’s talk. Focus on the main point of her talk and supporting points. Response – in another substantial paragraph, write about what you think and feel about Montgomery’s talk. Was anything she said new or surprising to you?
