Questionnaire Analysis
- 1. Questionnaire Analysis I asked this question because I felt it is important to consider gender especially in the hip-hop genre. I feel as if hip-hop is masculine as most the popular artists are male dominated such as Jay-Z and Lil Wayne. The graph below verifies this hypothesis as the comparison between gender (Q1) and whether they listen to music (Q4) has a high percentage.
- 2. Age is also important as I found from the history of Hip-Hop and my target audience is 17 to 25 as this group are more interested in Hip-Hop whereas those that are 30-39 are not interested in HipHop. The response from Q8 demonstrates this clearly. The comparison between age (Q2) and whether they listen to music (Q4) shows that as the age group increase those that listen to it decreases.
- 3. Ethnicity is also a vital factor that will help assure that I have targeted the right group. From my planning ideas I have stated that I will target people in White Chapel, Asians and a broader Black group as they can relate to the culture themselves as these groups are mostly working class (reference from the national statistics office) and tend to adopt the Hip-Hop culture and the history of Hip-Hop being one that rooted from poverty in South Bronx.
- 4. This is a question used in comparison with others to help me target the right group, as the results will be able to tell me whether, age , gender and ethnicity is a factor.
- 5. I needed a masthead that will appeal to my target audience and decide between 3 options, which one will appeal. The response for the option ‘rampage’ was popular and indicates that I should use it. For my Hip-Hop magazine I knew that I needed a colour scheme, I also knew that black and red was a good combination whether white or grey would be most suitable. From this graph I can conclude that grey would be a most suitable combination.
- 6. This question emphasises what is the most important feature on a double page and I need to really work on as the image/s of my DPS as this is what grabs the attention of the audience.
- 7. The majority response is formed on the basis from the reputation of Hip-Hop and a way of fitting in society. Those that don’t listen to it don’t have time or they are just not interested, this responses tend to be older age groups such as above 39. I tells me that I have targeted the right audience as those that listen to it are from 17-25.
- 8. I need to understand the general idea of Hip-Hop and the culture of it. The responses indicate that I origins of Hip-Hop is still embraced today, even though developing. A response like ‘Graffiti’ tells me that perhaps for my DPS background a Graffiti art wall design should be used. The response also tells me that the image on the front cover artist should embrace a an serious or ’angry’ facial expression to demonstrate the superiority of culture.
- 9. The response indicates that ‘Jay-Z’ is the most popular and my case study of Jay-Z can tell me why. This can help me for my music magazine double page article as it tells me what people are interested in such as his story. Point to consider in the next questionnaire: - Think about whether responses will turn out to be the same so a better question can replace that. - Wordings need to be shorter and clear so the question is not misunderstood.
