- 1. Task 9 Is your narrative linear or non-linear? My story is an adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood and follows a linear story. It is linear because all the events in the story happen in chronological order, beginning to end. An example of a non-linear story is Memento. This is non- linear because the story starts off as the ending scene and then it goes back in time to tell you the rest of the story. Is it an open or closed narrative? My story has a closed narrative because the story ends with the hunter being chased away by the bear and that is the end of the hunter. An example of an open narrative is a soap opera. These TV shows go on for years and years and each episode is left open to it can be picked up again next week. Does it have a single or multiple strands? My story has a single strand. It follows one story line of Little Red Riding hood and I have chosen to only include one story line because my book is aimed towards children so it would be easier for them to follow the story. An example of a multiple strand narrative is the film Burn After Reading. This film follows multiple storylines. Is it a realist or anti-realist narrative? My story is a non-realist narrative. It is a non-realist because the characters are talking bears and wolfs. An example of an anti-realist narrative is Star Wars because it features things that could never happen in real life. Opening I have used an opening in my film to introduce my main character at the start of the book and set up the story. I wanted to introduce the main character straight away so it was clear to my audience who my main character is so the can follow the story. Conflict The conflict in my story is when the wolf turns up to grandmas den. I have included this turning point in my book because it is very similar to what happens in Little Red Riding Hood and it is crucial to the book. It also makes the book more interesting when there is a conflict. Resolution My books ends with the bear chasing away the hunter. I have decided to include this ending because younger audiences fine it easier to follow a story when there is a clear start and end. Enigma A do not have any mystery’s in my book Climax The climax in my book is where the bear turns up to grandmas den and discovers the wolf. I include in a climax because younger audience find it easier to follow a book with all of the typical sections, which includes a climax. A climax also makes the book more interesting to read because it builds anticipation and makes the reader want to read on more. Manipulation I do not manipulate time in my book.
