These are the existing campaign posters for the Surfers Against Sewage. Although they are powerful, they are quite
disturbing to look at and I can imaging they would be quite hard to distribute because of this factor. The audience is
a lot older than my audience but I find this would be hard to distribute anywhere near children. It is making it a very
serious topic. The colours are very dark but the images stand for themselves. With my campaign I need the colours
to be bright to attract the children's attention and make them stand out from other campaign posters. I do really like
these posters but I do feel they could be disturbing to some people and I wanted to target a different audience and
create a lighter feel to it.
SAS Poster My Poster
Here is a cartoon campaign poster from Surfers Against Sewage. Compared to mine you can tell mine is for a
younger audience. They both have a meaningful message and the layout is set out in a similar way but it does
give out a slightly different feel. They both use bright colours, one more than the other and this one makes the
images stand out more, but the SAS’s gives out a harder message.
They both have
unusual fonts for
their text. This
makes them stand
out more. With
the original poster
it is made out of
shapes and surf
boards while mine
has a border. It
gives the words
character and
makes them jump
out at you.
The colours used are very similar. This is because different shades of blue is linked
with the ocean and the beach. This will make the audience feel like they are looking
at the ocean or something that resembles it. The colours are not massively vibrant
but just enough to catch you eye when walking past. The colours also link to both of
the logos as they are similar colours so you can connect the shades of blue with the
organisation logo.
The original poster
does not have
much information
about the “big
spring beach
clean” but uses up
the space with
logos from
companies helping
them to do this.
This is advertising
other companies
while in my poster
I give some
information and a
website link to
find out more.
The date is main feature in the original poster. The date is hidden within the text on my
poster. I would like to make the date clearer if I did it again.
Here is my re-designed logo and the original SAS
logo. Logos need to be simple and quickly get to
the point. Using blue as a main colour connects to
the ocean and beach theme but also makes you
feel calm just like the feeling of the beach does
when you visit. But the issue is nothing to be calm
about therefore using black and white will make it
look serious. The surf board represents the surfers
who are running the campaign. Although their
original logo is simple I think I needed something
else to it.
The SAS already designed some
merchandise that simply had the campaign
poster design on the front of it. I felt this
was a good idea to distribute the campaign
in a different way. When people buy the t-
shirt and wear it in public they are
advertising your campaign for a profit. It
could be something kids could wear and it
can be bought in lots of different colours
unlike the original SAS design.
