TEACHING SEQUENCE: P LETTER SOUND
Introduction
The teaching sequence starts by
showing a poster and different
pictures to the children to focus
attention to “p” letter sound.
Song
To continue working with “p”
sound the second part of the
teaching sequence is dedicated
to sing a “p” nursery rhyme,
which is a perfect hearing
support.
Action
To learn better p sound, it is
necessaryto seta specificaction
for it. In this case it would be
holding up index finger, as if it
was a lit candle, and imagining
puffing out , saying p.
Phonemicawarenessand
activities
In this part the children learn to
identify the sounds of words
whichcontain“p” lettersounds.
Moreover, the children develop
their capacity to segment and
blend words.
Then, the first activity is focused
on implementing different kind
of activities to practice with “p”
sound. In doing so, children will
be able to distinguishthissound.
Bothactivitiesare designedtobe
implemented with the whole
class as a high tech resource,
that´s whytheycouldbe usedas
stirrer activities
Writing
Lastly, the children should
become familiarwith writing“p”
letter.Thisway,they firstly have
to draw a line inside the “p”
picture and then, they should
produce their own p letters.
Thentheyare goingtoblendand
segmentsome wordsinorder to
get familiar to this sounds in
some words at the same time
they learn English reading and
speaking strategies.
Finally, this sequence offers a
slide to write the missing letters
which correspond to the sounds
studied before.
