TEACHING SEQUENCE: L LETTER SOUND
Introduction
The teaching sequence starts by
showing a poster to the children to
focus attention to “L” letter sound.
This way, the children brainstorm
the words with “L” lettersoundthey
can see in the picture.
Song
Secondly, the children implement a
“listenand do” activity as they have
to listena nursery rhyme and sing it
while makinga specificactionfor“L”
letter sound.
Action
The specific action mentioned
before consist on pretending to lick
a lolly saying lllll…
Phonemic awarenessand activities
In this part the children learn to
identify the sounds of words which
contain “L” letter sounds.
Moreover, the children develop
their capacity to segment and blend
words.
Then, the first activity is designedto
work indirectlywith“L” lettersound
while the childrensearchforthe pair
of cards with the same pictures.This
activity demands a quick
understanding of the words and
sounds represented.
In contrast, the aim of the second
activity is to drag the “L” letters
soundsto the pictureswhose names
contain this sound.
Both activities are designed to be
implemented with the whole class
as a high tech resource, that´s why
they could be used as stirrer
activities.
Writing
In this part, the children should
become familiar with letter“L”.This
way, this high tech teaching
sequence provides with a write
template whichallowsthemtolearn
how to draw the letter“L” in capital
letter and in lower case.
Finally, this sequence offers a slide
to write the missing letters which
correspond to the sounds studied
before.
