TEACHING SEQUENCE: Ch SOUND
Introduction
The teaching sequence starts by
showing a poster to the children to
focus attentionto “Ch” lettersound.
This way, the children brainstorm
the words with “Ch” letter sound
they can see in the picture.
Then the children see more
examples of words which contain
the “Ch” letter sound.
Song
Secondly, the children implement a
“listenand do” activity as they have
to listena nursery rhyme and sing it
while making a specific action for
“Ch” sound.
Action
The specific action for “Ch” sound
consist on pretending to be a steam
train, moving the arms like piston
rods and saying Ch.. Ch… Ch
Phonemicawarenessand activities
In this part the children learn to
identify the sounds of words which
contain “ch” letter sounds.
Moreover, the children develop
their capacity to segment and blend
words.
Then, the childrenpractice with two
activitiesthat are designedtowork
with “ch” lettersound. However,it
is worth to mentionthe differences
betweenthem.
In the firstactivity, the childrenhave
to match the each words with its
picture. In contrast, in the second
activity, the children should classify
the words which contain “ch” letter
sound” and the words which have
not “ch” letter sound.
These activitiescanbe stirreras they
are designed to be implemented
with the interactive whiteboard.
However,it ispossible toimplement
them as they if they were settlers.
Writing
In this part, the children should
become familiar with letter “Ch”.
This way, this high tech teaching
sequence provides with a write
template whichallowsthemtolearn
how to draw the letter “Ch”.
Then they are going to blend and
segmentsome words in order to get
familiar to this sounds in some
words at the same time they learn
English reading and speaking
strategies.
Finally, this sequence offers a slide
to write the missing letters which
correspond to the sounds studied
before.
