CA M3A Service
Monitor, Measure, Manage and Alert
BENEFIT
• 70% of the worlds critical data resides on the mainframe with much
of it housed in traditional databases
• Growing CA IDMS & Datacom DBA skill concern as retirement is
reducing available technical workforce.
• Fewer skilled employees represents a loss in the library of
knowledge used to keep mission critical CA IDMS and CA Datacom
systems up and running.
• CA provides a skilled remote technician to augment your current
resource pool to run and maintain your environments.
• Activities include monitoring production environments, establish
performance baselines to measure and track production, makes
recommendations as needed around performance tuning, DB
expansion and more…
• Provides a simple solution to augment and enhance customers CA IDMS & CA Datacom environments
• Flexibility—provides flexibility—various options to augment your CA IDMS & CA Datacom workforce by providing you with the resources needed to manage and
maintain the mission critical systems that serve the business
• Proven experience—access to CA IDMS and CA Datacom experienced M3A technical staff and knowledge base
• Resource pool—access to a pool of resources to insure there will always be resources available to assist in a critical situation
• Remote access—a low-cost alternative to dedicated on-site resources that allows for the “partial use” of a technical resource
PAIN

CA IDMS Performance Monitor
 CA IDMS Performance Monitor provides real-time monitoring
for CA IDMS
– Monitor all CA IDMS systems in one LPAR—key performance measurements.
– Monitor CA IDMS systems from one console.
– Monitor for resource utilization, problem areas and resource contention.
– Cancel “problem” tasks from CA IDMS Performance Monitor or CA SYSVIEW.
 Customer Benefits
– Avoid costs by detecting and correcting problem situations before they occur.
– Baseline and predict future resource utilization and capacity needs.
– Remotely monitor and tune CA IDMS environments.
– Avoid losses due to “Production Availability.”

Step 4: Get more ROI with
CA IDMS/Datacom Presspack.
14 © 2015 CA. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.@CAWORLD #CAWORLD
CA Datacom and CA IDMS Presspack
 Customer Value
– Data compression can result in significant savings in disk space requirements
which translates into dollar savings in monthly rentals, maintenance, floor
space and channel costs.
– Help reduce backup/archival processing and improve data security.
– Compression efficiency makes it an ideal tool for compressing large-volume
databases.
15 © 2015 CA. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.@CAWORLD #CAWORLD
CA Datacom and CA IDMS Presspack
 Customer Benefits
– Access new ONLINE COMPRESS capability (CA Datacom only).
– Fully zIIP-able means our compression utilizes the extremely efficient, low-cost
zIIP engines to compression and decompression processing.
– Reduce DASD footprint by 30-70 percent—save real dollars.
– Improve memory use within the database do all region.
– Benchmark tests have shown that converting an uncompressed Datacom table
to compression saves enough physical IO CPU to offset CPU used to do
compression—but the CPU is now zIIP which is significantly cheaper.

– Customers need to “share” existing critical business data for data analytics
platforms.
– Cooperative processing model with Veristorm allows CA IDMS data can be uplifted
as needed to the various big data platforms.
 Customer Benefits
– Cost avoidance:
 By allowing existing reliable systems to continue doing their work you save money.
 Using big data platforms to store large amounts of data (cheaply) for consumption by analytics engines
you reduce costs.
– New analytics possible using key big data concepts such as:
 Point-in-time data allows a customer to see data content at some point in the past.
 Fraud analysis is available.
 Business compliance analysis is available.
