IMPLEMENTING MOBILE DEVICES
Objectives:
To consider the issues surrounding
implementation of mobile devices regularly in your
classroom
To compare and contrast various mobile devices
To explore a variety of (mostly iOS – but some
work on other devices) applications to support
instructional goals
To connect technology – instructional goals –
district goals.
TECHNOLOGY INFUSION CONTINUUM - SAMR
MATCHING TO INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS
To increase skill in:
-math computation
-sight word recognition
-phonemic awareness
-reading fluency
-geography
To increase student
engagement/motivation:
-student response systems
-increased opportunity for choices
-public audience
-creation tools
To meet the needs of diverse learners:
-video consumption/flipped learning
-variety of ways to demonstrate
learning
-multimedia creation (higher level)
-LS kids have good tech skills despite
lacking in basic skills=success
-as adaptation for those with IEP
To develop 21st century skills:
-collaboration tools
-communication tools
To increase productivity/reduce paper
-tools that make mundane tasks
easier

WHAT SETS IPADS APART FROM THE
OTHERS?

• Has the most apps by a
long shot
• Quality product
C O N S T O I P A D
• Does not play Flash
games. (Can try Puffin
browser, though.)
• Most expensive
• Does not have a slot for
SD Card (extra storage)
Are you using the device for device specific apps or are you using it
more for web-enabled content that works on any device?
K-3 = iPad or iPad mini/ Grades 4+ = a good device that is on
sale
BYOD…Bring Your Own Device
•Implementing BYOD at Middle School & High
School…wireless throughout the buildings
•Elementary building will be rewired…in the
meantime, request a wireless router from Questeq

TECHNOLOGY TRIALS – IT’S NEW TO ALL OF US!
• It’s not going to work like you expected the first time
around unless you give it a trial run.
• Lots of perseverance and motivation needed to stick with
it
• There is additional “cognitive load” when using
technology at first.
• Need procedures in place to keep equipment
charged, working, and safe & secure.
