SPEED DETECTION OF
MOVING VEHICLE USING SPEED
CAMERAS
INTRODUCTION
 A speed camera is automated ticketing machine.
 It includes a camera mounted invariably behind road
sings or trees
 A new method develop for both car extraction and
speed detection
 RADAR’s are used to detect the object by using
electromagnetic waves.
 Here DOPPLER EFFECT determines speed of the vehicle.
 Every speed camera is SHF generator.
HISTORY
 The Dutch company Gastometer ,was founded in 1958 produced the
Gastrometer.
 The first RADAR is use with road traffic in 1997.
 Speed camera was introduced in west London in 1992.
 Following their success in reducing speed was expanded to many
other areas in UK.
BASIC PRINCIPLES
 RADAR makes use of electromagnetic waves to detect object.
 It gives information about speed, distance of objects.
 It makes use of DOPPLER EFFCT to determine vehicle
speed.
 Every basic speed camera is SHF generator.
DOPPLER EFFECT
 It is proposed in 1842 by Cristian Doppler.
 Is the difference between the observed frequency and emitted
frequency of a wave.
 Actually it will works, received frequency is higher during the
approach, and it is lower during the recession
 The variation of frequency also depends on the direction of the
wave source.
TYPE OF SPEED CAMERAS
 Gastrometer speed camera
 Speed spike speed camera
 Truvelo speed camera
 Specs system speed camera.
GASTROMETR
SPEED CAMERA
 Manufacturer of the UK’S red light camera.
 Red light camera was used to measured red light offecences.
SPEED SPIKE
SPEED CAMERA
 These cameras communicate with each other via the GPS satellite
network.
 It can trace a vehicle using number plate recognition.
 It allow two cameras to talk to each other.
TRUVELO
SPEED CAMERA S
 This system is designed to take photograph of the front of a passing
vehicle.
 This allows the picture taken to show the driver of the vehicle as
well.
SPECS SYSTEM
SPEED CAMERA
 SVD is the digital brain, actually SPECS system is based upon.
 It consist of two video cameras each other fitted with infra red
illuminators.
 It gives the ability to work 24hrs 7days a week.
APPLICATION
 Operation during the rain
 Continuous transmission
ADVANTAGES
 Reduce the speed and accidents.
 Speed cameras are designed for catch speeding motorists.
 It can note the number plate and recognize vehicles without of tax
and no insurance.
CONCLUSION
 These cameras reduces accidents and protects the innocent road
users.
 These system also provide location information of each vehicle as
long as it is visible.
 It reduced 40% of accident by the year of 2010.
